In Alien: Resurrection, Ellen Ripleys clone uses her highly effective, acid blood to burn a hole in a spaceship window. Quick thinking! She could have been helpful on the Titanic. The hybrid alien (tall white thing with a human-like tongue) was sucked out of the spaceship in a gruesome spectacle.

This all seems plausible, but based on my estimates, the hole in the window was about a square inch or so. Assuming the spaceship was pressurized to one atmosphere (sea level, which is much higher than the space shuttle or even Jet aircraft), the force on the back of the hybrid alien would have been about 14 pounds. That might seem like a lot, but the rank and file human back can handle quite a bit more than that. There are a number of geek tricks where people hang by hooks through thick skin on their backs. It looks painful, but apparantly it's not. That force is cleary much greater than 14 pounds.

What's even more dissappointing? The hybrid alien couldn't even push away from that 14 pounds on his back! Maybe they aren't as invincible as they seem...

So, given that humans can withstand high pressure, we can come to one or more conclusions:

  1. The spaceship was pressurized many times higher than one atmosphere
  2. The hole in the window was not to scale
  3. The hybrid alien is structurally weaker than the average human

If the third case is true, the hybrid alien really got the short of the double helix. After all, if Ellen Ripleys clone has acid blood, shouldn't the hybrid alien be at least as robust as a human? I guess it's like the old saying: if you lay down with humans, you lose structural integrity.
