M. Trent VanderSloot is a Brigham Young University-Idaho student pursuing a degree in Business Management with a focus on Energy Technologies.

VanderSloot lives in Idaho Falls with his wife Charisa and two children, Ethan and Kiari. He recently finished an internship with the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). During the internship he organized and created reports for the INL mainly focusing on biofuels. He also worked on the IEA's Task 40 Country Report.

VanderSloot and his wife also have two home-based business. One business is an automotive glass repair and replacement and the other is a network marketing company with Melaleuca.

Mandatory renewable energy targets

"The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 has set a target for 36 billion gallons of biofuel produced annually by 2022. Of that, 21 billion gallons shall be advanced biofuels (derived from feedstock other than corn starch). Of the 21 billion gallons, 16 billion shall come from cellulosic ethanol. The remaining 5 billion gallons shall come from biomass-based diesel and other advanced biofuels.
