La Boule Obut or simply Obut is a French company, a manufacturer of pétanque balls, equiment and related sporting goods.[1][2]. The largest producer in its field, the company represents 80% of the pétanque equipment market share.[3][4]

History[edit]

The company was founded in 1955, in Saint-Bonnet-le-Château, in France, by Frédéric Bayet and Antoine Dupuy, and from 1958 in association with Jean Souvignet.[4].From the outset the company names its brand Obut while forming the limited company La Boule Obut in 1981. With fully-automatic production machines initially designed by mechanic Antoine Depuy and a staff of 130 workers, Obut manufactures 4,200,000 petanque boules per year.[3]

The company remains run by its founding family.
