What is RfA[edit]

Request for adminship also know as the RfA is a process every Wikipedia user has to go through in order to become an administrator. The Wikipedia community get's to decide in a democratic fashion who will get access to the admin tools in order to help with the maintenance of the site. User's can be self-nominated or put up for nomination by another user who think's they are up to the tasks.

The Process[edit]

The Wiki community is very careful on to whom administrative power is given to; since the power is difficult to revoke. The user has to go through a 7 day long discussion by other members of the community to see if they possess the skills needed. Users then vote for the user by giving a support/neutral/support notification. Bureaucrat are ultimately the ones that decide if the user is successful or unsuccessful in being an administrator.

Succesfull RfA[edit]

User PresN has been successfully through the RfA process and these are the important details pertaining to it:

An active and successful editor that is involved in a number of articles, heavily involved in the Video Games WikiProject. Accolades include over 22,00 edits mainly in the following categories:

  • 8000 in the main space
  • 6000 on the article talk pages
  • 4000 in the Wikipedia space
  • 1000 in the Wikipedia talk space

PresN was nominated by an admin called Deckiller who said this about PresN:

  • Deckiller said the user PresN has an extensive history with the community.
  • Parts of many articles that were up to the DYK standards that shows you he understands quality policies.
  • The user displays humble characteristics and wants to stay out of the lime light; rather would just do work and help the Wiki community.

Discussion Questions[edit]

User jc37 asked directly, “Why would you like to be an admin?”. Answer: Essentially, I like to fix things and build things. I like to make the tools useful. I am not interested in the prestige of being an admin, ; I just want the tools to do what they were created for.

Community Responce[edit]

Users who supported(70) said: No reason why as to think that he will abuse the power Experience on his side and trustworthy Solid contributor and a great person overall

Users who opposed(10) said: Does not try to get their edit summaries close to 100% Mostly all has to deal with the edit summaries

Final Decision[edit]

Closed as a Success by user: Xeno Decision was made by a majority of supporters who had a strong argument that PresN would make a great admin. Although there were critics; there simply wasn’t enough reasons as to why PresN does not deserve to be a Wiki Admin.

Unsuccessful RfA[edit]

User Rehman was unsuccessful in the RfA process thus did not gain administrative powers, these were the details in that process

He is a male in his late youth who is quite active in the Wiki Community. Work ranges from a variety of tasks; such as maintenance, deletions, article contribution, and a few others. Accolades include over 11000 edits in such categories:

  • 6200 on the article pages
  • 2200 on the article notes section
  • 800 in the user talk page
  • 1200 in the project,help,and MediaWiki pages

Rehman was self-nominated meaning he put himself up through the RfA.

Felt as though he could take on the responsibility of an admin and experience to back it up. Feels like he can safeguard the function of the Wiki community.

Community Responce[edit]

  • Lack of relevant experience
  • Lack of policy knowledge
