From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dental Retipping ... Dental retipping is basically the rebuilding of an instrument. The process removes the old points and replaced them with new ones while still using the original handle.

History

The dental retipping process was created by John H Prusaitis of Pru-dent Mfg in 1978.The idea came about when Dr. Jam Buckstein of Colorado, a customer of Pru-dent, was being audited. The customer asked Prusaitis if there was a way to repair the instruments instead of buying new ones since that required sales tax. Prusaitis sat with the idea and developed a way to dissemble an instrument that was, until then, unrepairable.

The retipping process is still being used today by many small businesses, and is a large part of the industry.
