Myrna Kahaunaniomaunakeakauiokalewa Kahalewai (February 19, 1929 - March 2, 1982), known professionally as Haunani Kahalewai, was a Native Hawaiian contralto singer and inductee of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame.

Early Life[edit]

Haunani Kahalewai was born February 19, 1929 in Hilo, Hawaii, and graduated from Kaimuki High School in 1947.[1] At the age of three, was awarded a silver dollar for performing on a local radio show. Kahalewai was discovered by Webley Edwards, radio broadcaster for Hawaii Calls, after he heard her performance on a film soundtrack.[2] She became a regular feature on the show.[3]
