Oken Jeet Sandham (born February 1, 1965) is an Indian sportsperson. He started practicing Shotokan Karate under guidance of his local broker Kiran Kumar Thangjam and later formally joined the Karate-Do Institute called Ju-Ka Academy (Judo and Karate Academy) under the tutorship of Khoibi Salam when he was Class 7th Standard in late seventies.
Early life Sandham is the son of Jilla Sandham of Soibam Leikai, Imphal East District of Manipur and belongs to Meetei. He was born on February 1, 1965. He did his early education in Imphal, at DM Collage and higher studies at Kohima under NEHU. He studied Journalism and obtained Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and also Defense Journalism.
Career in Sports and Martial Arts Sandham has become the founder President of the Nagaland Karate-Do Council in 1986 and later became President of the South Asia Karate-Do Federation. He again became the founder President of the International Kick Boxing Federation of Indian Chapter in 1994 and finally became the founder President of the Muaythai Federation of India (MFI) in 1990. Stories on his martial arts and sports life appeared in various National Regional and International publications. He was also the first Indian to become the founder member of the World Muaythai Council (WMC) when the Council was formally formed on September 25, 1995 at Bangkok, Thailand. He is Senior Executive member of the Federation of Amateur Muaythai of Asia (FAMA) and Vice Chairman of International Muaythai Development Commission under International federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA).
Journalistic Career Sandham began his career with The Weekly Journal, Kohima, as early as 1987, later rechristened it as The Nagaland Journal. He worked with The Statesman from 1998 to 2000 before joining the Hindustan Times till 2001 as “Stringer.” Number of his stories appeared in various local, regional, national, and international publications. He is Editor of The Northeast herald and North East Press Service (NEPS). He was also founder President of the Nagaland Unit of Indian Federation of Working Journalists in 1998 till 2001.
Personal life
Sandham married Aneile Kenye, daughter of Pastor Melhite Kenye in 1986 and they have two children, one son and one daughter.
