The Other Side is a 2014 American indie feature film directed by Chris Niespodzianski and Raymond Mongelli III.[2] With the exception of Danielle Lozeau (Los Angeles), Sean Scott (New York City), and Tiffany Zhang (China), the film's cast and crew are Pittsburgh-based, and the film's soundtrack features local bands and artists. This film was based on a short film of the same name which was the winner of the 2012 Pittsburgh Zombie Shorts Film Festival.[3]

Plot[edit]

The film takes place in the fictional small town of Elkwood, Pennsylvania during the early days of the zombie apocalypse, where the characters deal with the developing crisis and Chris Sullivan (Chad Conley) desperately searches for his missing wife Ashley (Christine Starkey), who has picked a bad time to run away from home.

Production[edit]

The Other Side initially began as a 2012 short film by the same name that was screened at the Pittsburgh Zombie Shorts Film Festival.[4] After it won an award at the festival Mongelli and Niespodzianski decided to expand the film to a full-length feature film.[5] The pair drew their inspirations from zombie films and series such as The Walking Dead and films such as 28 Days Later, and funding was partially raised through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.[5] Other funding was received through contributions from family, friends, and other outlets, and the two also received assistance through local organizations and businesses donating props, filming locations, and costumes.[5]

Filming took place over a period of about 20 days.[6] Pittsburgh Post-Gazette shared that filming took place at the Overbrook Elementary School in Pittsburgh and at a farmhouse in Claysville, Pennsylvania during the summer of 2013. The film had nearly 30 speaking roles, over 100 film extras and from 25 to 30 crew members.[4]

Reception[edit]

Horror Society gave the film a favorable review, stating that "Overall, The Other Side is an impressive indie film that shows just how far heart and dedication can go in film making."[7]
