The Scarlet Rose[edit]

The Scarlet Rose is a series of comics and novels by Patricia Lyfoung,mixing Franco-Belgian style and manga styles.

The series is published by Delcourt, (2005-2019), and numbers fifteen volumes .

Only four volumes were translated in english and published by CHARMZ[1]

Synopsis[edit]

After her father's murder by an unknown person,young Maud de la Roche is raised by her grandfather, whom she had never heard of , and who lives in Paris. Her education and behaviour do not go down well with the old gentleman, accustumed to socializing with distinguished people and nobles. But Maud is only interested in fencing and also in the deeds of The Fox from the rich to redistribute their wealth to poor people.

At a party where she has been brought by her grandfather, Maud gets to meet with Guilhem de Landrey, a young earl. He accepts to give her fencing lessons, which will bring them closer to each other,until Maud learns that he is The Fox.Guilhem offer his help to find who is behind the death of her father. After much searching, they suspect the baron of Huet because of his striking similarities with the murderer. During all those adventures ,Guilhem and Maud develop feelings toward each other. Together,they will try to avenge Maud.

Awards[edit]

The reader's Grand prix of Le journal de Mickey,awarded by a children's Jury representing 250,000 readers of the magazine, was awarded in 2007 to the third volume of The Scarlet rose (in the original language).

Novelisation[edit]

Two novels were inspired by La Rose écarlate written by Sarah Cohen-Scali under the pseudonym Sarah.K.(only available in the original language)

The story is noticeably different , neverthless illuminates some aspects of the comic strip.

Spin-off[edit]

Written by Lyfoung but drawn by Jenny, a spin-off called La Rose écarlate-Missions tells in form of diptychs the adventures of La Rose écarlate and Le Renard between volume 6 and 7 when they comeback from Turkey, engaged.She is interested in their double lives of avengers. It is published by Delcourt (only available in the original language).
