'Women in Aviation International (India Chapter)' Formation of the India Chapter

On the occasion of International Civil Aviation Day (7th December 2015) US Ambassador to India Mr. Richard Verma along with Secretary Civil Aviation Mr. R N Choubey announced the formation of Women in Aviation India Chapter at the US Embassy in Delhi in the presence of its 15 founding members.


Women in Aviation International https://www.wai.org/ Women in Aviation International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the encouragement and advancement of women in all aviation career fields and interests. There diverse membership includes astronauts, corporate pilots, maintenance technicians, air traffic controllers, business owners, educators, journalists, flight attendants, high school and university students, air show performers, airport managers and many others. Women in Aviation International provide year-round resources to assist women in aviation and to encourage young women to consider aviation as a career. WAI also offers educational outreach programs to educators, aviation industry members and young people nationally and internationally.

WAI India Hosts ‘The Invisible Force- Skill Development for Women in Aviation’ Women in Aviation International India Chapter hosted its first conference on The Invisible Force- Skill Development for Women in Aviation on April 15 at the Dusit Hotel (D2) in Delhi. The Chief Guest for the conference was Minister of State for Skill Development Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, former minister of aviation and a pilot.

Mr. Rudy spoke on the importance and need for skill development for women in aviation in India. Two panel discussions along with a presentation by Dr. Frank Fichert, Deputy Dean, University of Applied Science, Worms, Germany, were held. The first panel discussion on skill development was moderated by Sonia Singh, Editorial Director, NDTV comprising aviation professionals Dr. Renu Parmar, IES, Senior Advisor, Government of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation, and Mr. Ashwani Lohani, Chairman & Managing Director, Air India. The discussion centered on issues that need attention in India. The second panel discussion was an all-women panel moderated by Ms. Fatima Karan, Consulting Editor Bloomberg India TV on ‘Success and Talent’ in the aviation Industry. The panelists for this session were Ms. CJ Collins, FAA Senior Representative, South Asia, Ms. Sally Jones, Chief Financial Officer, ExecuJet Aviation Group & Ms. Fatima Subramanian, Director – Fuel Services and Support., Skyplan Services. The first conference for the India Chapter was a great success as it created the much-needed awareness. The guests numbering over 200 comprised senior leaders and aviation industry professionals, clearly amplifying the fact that WAI India is a force to be reckoned with.

The Sky’s the Limit: Celebrating Girls in Aviation Day 2016 - On September 24, 2016 Women in Aviation International India Chapter will bring all of the passion, exploration, learning, and excitement of aviation and aerospace. The Women in Aviation International network globally, plans for an extraordinary day of fun, awareness and inspiration! The objective of this day would be to CONNECT with girls and to get them EXCITED about aviation as a career, EXPLORE the opportunities for working in the aviation and aerospace industry & finally EXPERIENCE the high-flying fun aviation offers!
