Devcon is an annual gathering held by the Ethereum Foundation. It's centered around decentralized protocols, tools, and culture, both from a technical, and from a human perspective with a primary focus Ethereum and related initiatives. This is a conference for builders of all kinds: developers, designers, researchers, client implementers, test engineers, infrastructure operators, community organizers, social economists and artists.

The first event was held in Berlin, Germany before the official launch of Ethereum with around 40 attendees. True to the developers tradition, the counting starts at 0. The number of attendees has increased each year as the adoption of blockchain has grown.

CoinDesk reported about Devcon1 "the audience listened as ConsenSys chief Joe Lubin predicted a new future for firms; cryptographer Nick Szabo talked about decentralization [...]; and chief scientist Vitalik Buterin assembled shards of the path that lay ahead." [1]

Camila Russo gives an account of the conference from Devcon0 to Devcon4 in her book The Infinite Machine. [2]
