Help needed

Hello Oshwah, Need your help. On my talk page, the message titled "CVU-application, Happy New Year! Comment" somehow became the sub content of "Happy New Year" message. I am not sure what happen, could you pls fix it for me please. Thanks in advance. best. Cassiopeia(talk) 09:43, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Cassiopeia:  Done with Special:Diff/997827342.
Happy new 2021 year!! CiaPan (talk) 12:16, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Additionally, there was an error in sections' titles formatting, introduced by ClueBot III. I have fixed it, too, in the edit mentioned above, and reported it at User talk:ClueBot Commons/Archives/2021/January#A bug? Bot removed an equal sign from section titles. --CiaPan (talk) 12:30, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The New Year greeting added in Special:Diff/997656840 was missing a closing </div> HTML tag (it had one but needed two). Looking at what links to the File:Snowman icon.png image that the greeting uses, I guess the greeting was based on {{Happy New Year snowman}} and the HTML tag, along with a {{clear}}, was an accidental casualty of the deletion of the line suggesting sending the greeting to others. It looks like the missing HTML tag was added in Special:Diff/997827342 ((edit conflict) as CiaPan says above) while I was off looking at other things; I'll add the {{clear}} too. Hope this helps, —2d37 (talk) 12:44, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
@CiaPan and 2d37: Thank you guys for being so helpful! Truly appreciate it. Have a wonderful 2021 and stay safe. Best! Cassiopeia(talk) 19:02, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Looks like it's been fixed. Thanks to CiaPan for doing that! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:44, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Revision deletion

Why did you delete/suppress my two revisions? —154.5.234.189 (talk) 05:34, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Because it's not appropriate. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:35, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
@Oshwah: How is it not appropriate (at least for the English Wikipedia)? —154.5.234.189 (talk) 05:37, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Uppsala

Of course, Uppsala should be pronunced in Swedish, not in English. --85.76.108.189 (talk) 05:58, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

I was confused as to why you removed content here from Uppsala. Why does that content need to be removed? I'm still confused... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:00, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
I am not the IP but I think I understand their point – MOS:DUALPRON disagrees with the IP and I have no strong opinion either way myself, but at least it makes sense to me :-) The place name "Uppsala" has a very different pronunciation in English (in fact several different pronunciations), and the IP's argument seems to be that a Swedish place name doesn't need foreign pronunciations listed in the article. I'll restore the English-language pronunciations per the manual of style, since there are sources for them. I think it's illogical that the foreign ("foreign" meaning "English" in this context) pronunciations should be mentioned first, but that's my problem, and I am not going to get involved in any discussions to try to get the MOS changed – that way madness lies ;-) --bonadea contributions talk 08:10, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Bonadea - Thanks for taking a look at this! I really appreciate it. Please restore what revision you feel is best. I won't be offended. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:29, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

RevDel request

could you please delete this diff, the edit summary contains profanity by a now blocked user. [1]. - Kevo327 (talk) 07:32, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kevo327! It looks like the edit summary has already been redacted. I personally wouldn't have called the edit summary an RD2 myself, but another administrator has handled the matter. :-) Please let me know if you need anything else and I'll be happy to help! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:32, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Yup. I always try to look before it's deleted. :) But it's partly so I'll might recognize the user if it shows up under a different account or IP. BilCat (talk) 01:26, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

With regards to the warning you left me

Dear Oshwah,

I hope you are doing well and have a very happy new year! I came to know that you left a warning on my talk page after a certain editor accused me of reverting his changes to the page 'Secularism in India'. I would like to inform you that, I was only reverting changes he made to the post that were deliberately misleading in nature. You can please go through the edit history to see what I'm talking about. The user in question has also been involved in the past when it comes to revising historical facts on countries and religion. If you see, he has already been warned when it comes to topics such as India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Muhammed. He is deliberately erasing the parts of the article which states that India is a secular country (as it is constitutionally recognised and is cited). I am quite new to wikipedia and I do not engage in edit wars after learning the process of consensus building that was told to me by a fellow editor but this was clear vandalism. I kindly request you to have a look into what I said. Have a great day ahead!

With regards, Addie666 (talk) 13:20, 3 January 2021 (UTC)Addie666

Hi Addie666, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns regarding the Secularism in India article and the warning I left you. An important policy that you need to make sure that you know and understand is Wikipedia's edit warring policy. All editors must be aware of this policy when making edits or changes to articles.
To summarize: It doesn't matter how "correct" you believe that your edits are to the article compared to another user's. If it's a content-related dispute between yourself and another editor (and not something such as vandalism or a serious violation of policy), you need to resolve the dispute properly with the other editor. Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol is a page that outlines what you should do should you run into a dispute with another user. The first thing to do is start a discussion on the article's talk page and work things out with them there. Don't continuously revert each other's edits in a back-and-forth fashion - that's edit warring, and you can be blocked for doing this... especially if you've been warned about it recently. Wikipedia has a bright-line rule, called the three-revert rule, that specifies edit warring and when the line is crossed in most cases.
I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with the article and the other editor, but you need to try and work things out. If, after attempting to discuss things with them, issues still continue to occur - you can warn the user and report the user for administrative action if the warnings don't result in the user stopping to discuss things. Please review the policies I linked you to here, and let me know if you have any questions about them. I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you. Thanks again for leaving me a message here, and I hope that my response helped you to understand why I left you that warning. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, and I hope that you decide to stay with us as an editor! We need more people to help us! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:07, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi,

This is Incognipedia, Thank you for letting me know. I'm sorry I forgot to describe the reason. The reason I removed the content was due to the deficiency of citations in that specific paragraph. I will mention that in the future.

SudenSucks

Thank you for blocking that person permanently. It is the same person as earlier in 2020. Or at least I assume it is. Hopefully that is the last of him. Suden13 (talk) 16:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Suden13! No problem! I get this stuff all the time. ;-) I guess only time will tell... If you do receive more harassment like this, let me know and I'll be happy to show the user the door... ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:19, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
If you check my history, I had some harrassement and vandalism to deal with last year. I can only assume it was the same person just using different accounts. I was trying to see what he wrote this time, but I did not see that option. Are you able to tell me what it was? Suden13 (talk) 16:28, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Ah yes, thank you for that. It looks like it is the same person as before then. Similar kind of message. Suden13 (talk) 19:11, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Suden13 - I dunno... unless it's an LTA, that user must have some dedication to leave you the same message one year later. Trolls say that to other users all the time. I seriously doubt that it's the same person... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:20, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

The edits have been reverted, but maybe you can still find something. I assume all 3 are one and the same person. Suden13 (talk) 19:56, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Jacob de Joe linkspam

Hello Oshwah. Thanks for the message on ANI. I don't know how regex works, so would rather you add the links to the blacklist if possible, so I don't mess anything up. The sites they appear to be spamming (few of which offer any useful content and seem to be purely there for ad revenue) are:

  • anyplaceamerica.com
  • latitude.to
  • maplandia.com
  • mapcarta.com
  • mapy.emiejsca.pl
  • mapy.cz
  • pincodes.info
  • postcode.info
  • us-places.com
  • vymaps.com

updating SwingThought company information

hi there we were trying to update our company information to display the proper information based on our name, services etc. Here is the info below that we were trying to save changes as.

"SwingThought, is a golf experience platform that makes it easy for everyone to play and connect to the game on-course and on-screen. SwingThought provides live competitions for men and women golfers, offering the only guaranteed prizes and choice entry, outside of the pga tour system in the United States. The platform offers roughly 50 professional golf tournaments a year, making it the third largest series in the United States after the elite PGA Tour and its developmental series, the Korn Ferry Tour. Over $6M in prize money has been earned on SwingThought by professional golfers since 2015 when the company entered the segment.

SwingThought provides support for golfers to organize their golf journey and the company's new app is due in 2021. The entity is wholly owned by Golf Interact, LLC a parent company founded by entrepreneur Michael Rush."

The company pivoted from a tour to a lifestyle / sports platform on January 1 2020 offering live competitions and digital tools. This is no different than a CrossFit for fitness etc. Golf is used to only tours but we are not. Tour S we provide multiple access points at the same time. We simply want the proper and consistent information on Wikipedia to match our verified and in market info everywhere else online. Thank you.

Note:the save / update of information worked initially but I made an error on follow up trying to change name which o need help with as well. Just SwingThought. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.206.57.214 (talk) 21:09, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi there! Since you have an obvious conflict of interest with the article subject, I highly recommend that you edit other articles that interest you instead. The reason that we recommend this is because editing articles where you have a conflict of interest with makes it nearly impossible to write content that reflects a neutral point of view. I appreciate you for messaging me and for letting me know what you were trying to do. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:21, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Ripple Music page

Hi Oshwa, I'm fairly new to Wikipedia working on improving the Ripple Music page so that it does not get deleted. I have added independent references and removed some promotional language from the original text.

Here are diff links to my revisions (I think!) -- you can also see in the View History area https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ripple_Music&oldid=998103687 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ripple_Music&oldid=998107564

I added "Keep" with information to the Deletion discussion page.

Can you give me any further information on how the deletion process works and how to prevent this page from being deleted? Thanks for your help!

Jessiemay1984 (talk) 21:31, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Jessiemay1984! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad that you decided to join us! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and request for help. I'll be more than happy to explain how the articles for deletion (AFD) process works.
Discussions at AFD will not take the quality of the article itself into account when deciding whether or not to keep or delete it; they take the notability of the article subject into account, which is typically established by the availability of secondary reliable sources that can be researched and found (either on the internet or in print media) that provide primary coverage regarding the article subject.
Think of it like this: If, for example, the Barrack Obama or Abraham Lincoln articles were only a few paragraphs long and didn't provide many or very good sources, these articles would be kept if I were to nominate them for a discussion at AFD. That's because, well, they're notable people... :-) It's quite easy to go onto Google and type those names in - you're going to find numerous sources that are reliable and show that these people are notable. We don't delete those articles under that process just because they're not long enough, don't have great content, or don't have enough sources cited. The articles just need to be expanded and improved. The same principle applies here as well. On the other hand: I could have an extensively-written article about some random Joe person, but if they're not notable, the article subject won't be determined to be notable in an AFD discussion. Why? Because there obviously won't be any secondary reliable sources online or elsewhere that would establish Mr. Random Joe Person as a notable article subject. The quality of the article I wrote about Random Joe could be significantly above-average when it comes to content, but in the end, it won't matter.
In short: There's really nothing you can do to the article itself that will change the outcome of the discussion. Don't go into an AFD discussion with the belief that, if you could improve the article to be "up to standard" before the discussion closes, that there's hope of it being kept. Either the article subject is notable or they aren't - that's what the discussion is created to determine. If anything, take the outcome as a good learning experience. Before you write your next article, I'm sure that you'll be much more well-versed in Wikipedia's notability guidelines, and you'll create an article that will do well. I created a few articles when I was new on Wikipedia, and I was angry and disappointed when they were deleted - it can be really discouraging... All that time wasted. However, I kept with it, and I took the time to know and understand the policies and guidelines and why they're important. In the end, it helped improve my editing and my experience a lot.
Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Take some time and read through those guidelines. If you have any questions about them, let me know! I'll be happy to answer them and explain, or clarify anything that's confusing. You're doing well here! If anything, the article gets deleted, and this is just a minor setback. You'll be a better editor moving forward either way. I've been there myself; I'm not here today and with the experience and knowledge that I have because I got everything right and did perfectly. I've made more than my fair share of mistakes. Trust me... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:23, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

Please restore Draft:Scarlet Sofia Spencer. Thank you --154.158.130.94 (talk) 21:51, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

May I ask why? :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:19, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the insight!

Hi Oshwa, thanks for your response about the Ripple Music page. I did not create the page (I don't know who did), but I am trying to improve it because I believe Ripple meets the music notability guidelines.

In particular, it "Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of

the musician or ensemble itself" and the label and its artists "(are) frequently covered in publications devoted to a notable music sub-culture."

Hopefully my edits will help show this to the moderators. Thank you for your insights, this is helping me on my Wiki journey! Jessiemay1984 (talk) 21:52, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Jessiemay1984 - The users who are participating in the discussion are not moderators. They are editors just like you and me! :-) They have no additional "powers" or "authority" over other users. Nobody has additional authority over other editors here. That's what makes Wikipedia awesome! Feel free to add your arguments to the discussion, and let me know if you have any questions. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:23, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

IP user with a pattern of disruptive edits

Oshwah, I came across some problematic edits from a mobile IP user that you blocked for a day back in March. Would you consider looking at their contribs again?

Since the block you imposed, 2600:387:B:9A2:0:0:0:46 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) has made quite a few unusual (? possibly well-meant ?) edits, including section-blanking, re-wording direct quotes in articles, making unsubstantiated claims in BLP and adding this note to the top of one article:

***THIS IS A SLAM ENTRY BY YET ANOTHER GROUP OF SCIENTIFIC REDUCTIONIST CULTISTS USING RIDICULE INSTEAD OF SCIENCE****

They made a post on their talk page that seems to say that they have or had an account, though I can't find it.

If there is a more appropriate channel for me to post this request to, I'd be so grateful if you could direct me to it! In the meantime, I'll look at undoing some of their less-conventional edits that haven't already been undone.—A L T E R C A R I   02:56, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Altercari! Thanks for letting me know about this IP. The edits seem to be in good faith, but I'll keep an eye on it just in case that changes. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:58, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Is it possible to speedy close and delete this per G5?

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Akash mahmud. It clearly won't pass, and it speedy deletable under A7, G11, and G5. As you blocked the underlying sockfarm, can it be speedy closed? Steve M (talk) 02:25, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Steve M! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your question. Unfortunately, the article is not eligible for any of the speedy deletion criteria you listed and I've declined the speedy deletion tagging. The article was created on December 31, 2020, and the accounts from this SPI report were not blocked until January 4, 2021. This means that the user did not create the article in violation of a block of ban. The article also claims that this user has won an award for their work (though it's vague as to what kind of award). In my experience with handling speedy deletion cases and reports, stating that a person has won an award for their work establishes a credible claim of significance, which makes the article ineligible for A7. Unless the article subject is an autobiography about the creator and is worded non-neutrally to be positive, or is worded to be a resume or blatantly self-promotional (like something you'd put on your user page), it also isn't eligible for G11. The AFD discussion only has three more days left until it can be closed the normal way (not a speedy close); just let it finish and someone will close the discussion and delete the article. Unfortunately, as silly as it may seem, I don't have a justifiable reason to close it early and proceed with a deletion... not within policy, that is... ;-) Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything else, and I'll be more than happy to help! :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:49, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
@Oshwah: The user was blocked before the SPI as a spam-only account on December 29, 2020. See this. What makes it ineligible for G5? Steve M (talk) 02:56, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Steve M - Hold on. Let me double check... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:00, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Steve M - D'OH! You're right! I'm a moron! I didn't check the block logs, just the most recent blocks. Yup, that is totally G5 eligible. I'll delete the article and close the AFD. Thanks for pointing that out! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:01, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
@Oshwah: Lol ;-) Also, don't forget to delete Draft:Akash Mahmud while you're at it. Best regards, Steve M (talk) 03:04, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Steve M -  Done. Thanks again, Steve M! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:06, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) ...and how about deleting the draft Steve mentioned in the recent comment above? --CiaPan (talk) 10:15, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) And possibly the other page by the same author Special:Contributions/Kaziisalman ...? It looks a bit too promotional to me. --CiaPan (talk) 10:19, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
CiaPan - Thanks. I had already G5'd the draft page, but another sock re-created it. That account is now blocked. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:11, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi oshwah, i hope all is well and happy new year the username is a randomly chosen one, the name ABZRecords doesnt refer to a record label or real business.

i hope this is ok with you. i can change it however thanks ian — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abzrecords (talkcontribs) 10:16, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Abzrecords! So long as it's not referring to a company, label, record, or business of the such, your username is fine. I'd recommend changing it simply because other users may believe your username to be of such. It'll save you trouble and headache compared to constantly having to tell people like me that it isn't. Please explain how a biography is “a promotion”.

Hi Kyle Inan! Welcome to Wikipedia! Please see this section of Wikipedia's policies on user pages. Specifically, Wikipedia is not a social network, and user pages are not for creating a biography about yourself. They are to be used for Wikipedia-related content and discussion. This is why I deleted your user page; it was self-promotion in that you were creating an autobiography.
Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:38, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Xhchvk67

Oshwah, do you think you could check this against Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/IrzaKhanz69? They’re behaviourally similar and the usernames follow a common pattern (all end in numbers). Also, the master of this investigation was one of the SPAs I mentioned in IzraKhanz’s last report (now archived). Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 22:36, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pahunkat! I've checked out the SPI that was filed for this, and I confirmed that they're all the same person. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:32, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Avinash.gorikapudi1! Where is the draft currently located? Can you link me to it? You just need to submit the draft for review, and someone will move it to the mainspace if there aren't any problems. See this page for more information. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:29, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Recent block

Hi there, thank you for blocking this editor, who was adding a lot of unsourced election results. The editor now seems to be using their IP account to add the content back. This IP has also been used. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 11:20, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

If you'd like me to fill out a SPI report instead I can. Thanks again. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:23, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi Magnolia677! Yes, go ahead and file an SPI report about this. The problem is that I can't use checkuser to publicly confirm accounts to IP addresses. That would violate Wikipedia's privacy policy and I'd be disclosing personal identifiable information if I did. I'm allowed to run checkuser in this situation because it falls into disruptive editing and it's within my discretion to do so, but I can't share the results, and I'd have to figure out a way to block the user but without giving too much information that would lead editors to figure out the IP addresses that it's in relation to... That's going to be tricky... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:24, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Will do, thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 16:48, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Edit Conflict

 – The entry moved from the User page by CiaPan (talk) 14:37, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Oshwah, I conflicted with your edit to ANI, while adding back an edit where you conflicted with mine and it mysteriously disappeared. Heh. I accidentally posted it to Ahunt's page since you didn't sign your comment. Here is the edit in full, in case it wasn't saved: == WatanWatan2020 == *WatanWatan2020 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) I just closed this SPI report, where WatanWatan2020 made bad-faith and baseless accusations of sock puppetry and meat puppetry against Ahunt and The Bushranger (as well as some IP addresses). Looking at WatanWatan2020's user talk page, this user has a history of edit warring and other problems involving articles about airlines and similar article subjects. WatanWatan2020 has been talked to on more than one occasion regarding the addition of unreferenced or poorly referenced content, disruptive editing, and was recently blocked for making legal threats (although, after a discussion, he was unblocked after the presumption of good faith with what the user was trying to say). After declining the SPI report that WatanWatan2020 filed, and after looking through this user's talk page, I feel like a discussion should be started regarding the issues relating to WatanWatan2020's edits to these articles, as well as this user's overall conduct. Are this user's edits to these articles substandard as pointed out many times on his/her user talk page? Is this user becoming disruptive to the point where actions or sanctions are necessary? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oshwah (talk • contribs) :It has become clear that this user is just here to spam certain organizations on Wikipedia, as is evidenced by his edit history. As you can see, when his spamming is thwarted he resorts to accusing the long-term editors who revert him as "sockpuppets". I was accused of being the "puppet master" of an admin, User:The Bushranger who had previously blocked him for "outing" and making legal threats??? Even a cursory read through User talk:WatanWatan2020, show that is clearly WP:NOTHERE and should be quickly indef blocked. - Ahunt (talk) 13:30, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

CU issue

Hey, Oshwah,

It's been a while, I hope you are doing okay so far in 2021.

I was tracking this JamesH matter (lots of drafts, sockpuppets and deleted pages) and came across Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/EunikaSylviane. It looks like you did a CU check yesterday and the case indicates that it is ready to be closed but there has been new information posted regarding other possible sockpuppets. The info was posted in the CU section so I moved the comments but I'm not sure when a SPI case is marked for closure whether CUs are notified if new info is added to the case. Hope all is well. Liz Read! Talk! 20:46, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Liz! Long time no chat! I hope you're doing well and that you're keeping yourself safe! When new information regarding possible checkusers is added to an SPI report that requires a check, usually the status is updated to 'CUrequest'. It looks like that wasn't done. I'll update the status and take a look. Thanks for letting me know! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:28, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
Actually, being on quarantine here in NW U.S. has meant that I returned to heavy editing last year, like the old days. Back then, I used to mainly edit categories but now I'm working with G13 stale drafts. There is so much work involved, it makes me wonder how they were handled before I started working in this area in September. Maybe we had more editors tagging them in years past. I can see that you are as busy as usual, I often think of your talk page as the Teahouse for Advanced Users. Be well! Liz Read! Talk! 17:35, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Liz - I'm glad that you're doing well, staying busy, and keeping safe. We were in lockdown back in March 2020, then it let up after a few months (June, I think?). Heh, I'm sure there are not the first person who thinks of my user talk page as "the Teahouse for Advanced Users" either. ;-) Have a good one, and stay in touch! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:54, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

How to respond to vandalism

Hi, I saw two almost certainly bad-faith edits on the page Sacred Heart High School (Nebraska) while scrolling through recent changes. I'm relatively new to Wikipedia and I usually use the Visual Editor for editing, so my knowledge of WikiMarkup Text is rudimentary at best. I've read the essay on how to clean up vandalism and I still have no idea of how to leave the user a warning. In addition, the user is unregistered and doesn't have a talk page for me to put any warning message on. Could you please help me? (I'm reluctant to use the Request Administrator Attention page because of my lack of knowledge of WikiMarkup text. You seem friendly and I saw that you've had quite a lot of experience dealing with vandalism, so I came here.) Hi Johnnyconnorabc! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad that you've joined us, and I hope that you take off your coat and stay awhile! ;-) There's a super easy way to warn users and report repeat offenders to AIV: Enable Twinkle. It adds menus and options to revert vandalism, warn users, report them to AIV, and much more! You install it simply by enabling it in your preferences under the "gadgets" tab, and near the top of that page in the "browsing" group. This way, you won't have to touch any WikiMarkup in order to do what you're wanting (or needing) to do. If you have any questions about Twinkle, or need help with anything else, please don't be a stranger. You're welcome to message me on my user talk page any time you need or want to - my user talk page is completely open and welcome to you. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:38, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah, I'm not sure if IP user 2600:1702:31D0:1000:850D:DCDB:E63F:1D0E's editing history amounts to 'egregious vandalism'. The user has only be warned twice. The page on 'Administrator intervention against vandalism' stated that a user could be blocked for egregious vandalism without 4 warnings, but I'm still not sure whether to report the user or not. MilesAxlerod862 sock stuff

Hi! You originally blocked and unblocked MilesAxlerod862 as not being a sock of JamesRock2013 on technical basis; and not being part of JoeBiden44 sockfarm although on same campus. Since then I'm comparing these talk page edits of JR and MA and these are basically the same messages at identical times (previously, I reported them on being somewhat similar). They both literally admit to creating accounts. I don't know if this is enough behavioural evidence that these two are the same person or still just meatpuppets or if they are indeed also the same as JB farm. Should I make another SPI report or does this not change anything? —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 12:07, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Hellknowz - Go ahead and create another SPI report. If more evidence has come to light that wasn't presented before, it should be looked at in order to block the offending user. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:37, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Question

Hi Oshwah! I cannot find a name for the practice of multiple persons using one account. I stumbled across something in that vein that could use some checkuser. Would I just make an SPI report with a single user? Thanks. Possibly (talk) 08:19, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Possibly! Ah, what you're looking for is Wikipedia's policy on sock puppetry. If you suspect that there are accounts that are violating Wikipedia's sock puppetry policy by using their account to do one of these actions, then definitely file a report at SPI. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:26, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Hi, Possibly! Sorry, Oshwah, but I think it is rather a Shared account, which is against the Username policy, too, as described at Wikipedia:Shared account. --CiaPan (talk) 08:29, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks to you both. I will put in a report at SPI,as it actually involves some previously blocked socks as well. Possibly (talk) 08:33, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Possibly - Sorry, I must be more tired than I think... CiaPan is correct. This still falls under Wikipedia's sock puppetry policy (see "role accounts"), but we handle these accounts differently. If, as you said, there's some previously blocked socks involed as well, definitely file an SPI report. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:36, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

User:SiberMusic

The user who you just blocked recently threatened legal action if I didn't make a 'valid reason' why I rejected their draft about Siber Music. They said to me: You still haven't given us a valid reason to reject our item. If you do not give it, we will be forced to take drastic measures. MarioJump83! 09:49, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi MarioJump83! "Drastic measures", while threatening, doesn't rise up to an explicit legal threat. That could mean anything (though nothing good). The user is blocked for sock puppetry anyways, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:59, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Does this warrant an ANI thread?

See the history of Phi Sigma Phi, where an editor and IP have been going into legal ways to try to remove sections of the article. However, it doesn't look like a full-on threat of legal action. Does this warrant an ANI thread, or can an uninvolved admin like you sort it out (or is it nothing I should worry about at all)? Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 11:29, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pahunkat! I hope the day is treating you well! The edit summaries by the IP user are "official sounding", but they don't make a threat of legal action (though I did remove the edit summary that listed their email address). However, the IP user (and the account that was made) are edit warring, and I've blocked the IP user for this reason. If any further issues continue at this article, please let me know and I'll be happy to take care of it. Thanks for the message and for bringing this to my attention! I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:26, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Why are IPs spamming the SPI?

Hi Oshwah, IPs are posting links and commenting on Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/EunikaSylviane. The SPI is still open, new accounts got created yesterday and today. How are the IPs being able to access it so easily? --Ashleyyoursmile! 15:02, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Ashleyyoursmile - They're likely not new users... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:53, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Do I get it right? That would imho imply socks take part in SPI... --CiaPan (talk)

Hey you

I'm tinkering with the protection table and (as you well know) it's a bit hairy so I'd appreciate it if you'd ride shotgun and grab the wheel if I start veering into a ditch. While I've got you maybe you know this: the Template protection row says it's for High-risk templates & modules, but the Full protection row says it's for critical templates & modules; is there a difference, or is that an accident of wording? Now that I think of it, I see the difference. EEng 21:02, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi EEng! Sure, I'll be happy to ride shotgun with you and help! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:35, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Well, I've done a good deal and think I'm just about at the stopping point. I just pinged you on a question about applicability of EC protection, and I really think clarification is needed at WP:ECP -- you might want to bring in a few other admins to consult, given the central importance of it. I'll add (to what I said in my edit summary where I pinged you) that the current text in the table, which I have left as is, is written somewhat ambiguously as to whether the "Specific topic areas authorized by Arbcom" criterion and the "pages subject to persistent disruption that semi-protection has failed to stop" criterion are conjunctive or disjunctive. Unless you see an obvious resolution I'm missing, might want to open at discussion at WT:PROTECT; I'm not an admin so I'll leave to you how to proceed. EEng 20:01, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi EEng! I'll check it out tonight and see what I can add that you think will be helpful. I'll let you know what I change and see if you think it's an improvement. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:17, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
Honestly a lot of WP:PROTECT is inconsistent from section to section, and I leave it all in your capable hands. I take it you're OK with the table as it's been recently revised. EEng 17:24, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
EEng - Yeah, it can be inconsistent, and I was working on the protection policy page to clarify things and make them more accurate. Sure, your changes are fine. I simply updated the table to reflect more accurate wording and make it easier to read and understand. I'm not the kind to get all in a tiff because someone changed "my work" LOL. I'll check it out, and I'll let you know if I change anything so you can take a look at it and tell me what you think. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:39, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
No need to notify me. It's on my watchlist so if I you do anything I don't like you'll know it when the killer drone arrives.[FBDB] EEng 17:54, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
EEng - LOL. Sounds good. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:30, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
EEng - What do you think about this change I just made? I modified the table on the "extended confirmed" row to say "normal editing" for Extended confirmed users and administrators, and "normal editing" with an asterisk just for template editors (since only template editors would be affected in this situation). However, it might crowd the table a bit in exchange for accuracy. If you think that the former way was better, feel free to change it back. I also changed a capitalization in a previous edit I made - a small edit, but worth making... Thoughts? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:44, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

User:Arjun Muraleedharan Madathiparambil

Hi Oshwah! I don't want to repeatedly go to noticeboards but with close to a 1000 edits one would know that an edit summary is necessary to communicate with other editors. Even after a temp ban Arjun Muraleedharan Madathiparambil fails to communicate. Please advise. Vikram Vincent 08:40, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Gentle @Oshwah: Vikram Vincent 06:23, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Hey Vincentvikram! Sorry for the delay responding to your message. If they still fail to communicate when it's needed, you should file a report at ANI so that it can be reviewed. Don Lemon

Hola! A while back, I asked for your help regarding an editor issue related to the article on Don Lemon and you helped out. Well, I'm back. A new editor has left a pretty inflammatory post on the talk page; it's been reverted, but I think it needs further scrutiny and perhaps to be more permanently removed. Would you have a minute to go take a look and see what might need to be done? Thank you! ----Dr.Margi 13:05, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Drmargi! I've gone and revdel'd the revision on the article's talk page. It definitely crosses the line with BLP violations and other matters. Thanks for letting me know about the post. Please let me know if you need anything else, and I'll be happy to help! :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:01, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Blocking sockpuppets

Hi Oshwah, thank you for your work at SPI/with CU. May I ask why some of the confirmed sock accounts at the following two SPIs haven't been blocked yet? [5][6] Especially for that first one - Doug Weller said he hoped you could "follow up" but they still aren't blocked.

I'm assuming that a clerk handles the merging of the cases. I'm bringing this up because I just had to report a new sock but I wanted to make sure the ones we know about don't slip through the cracks. Crossroads -talk- 04:10, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Ah, as it happens, I asked right before the whole thing was handled by someone else. Sorry to bother you with it. Crossroads -talk- 06:35, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Crossroads! No worries; that was my fault. It looks like the script I use didn't proceed with a block, or I just simply missed doing so altogether... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:45, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Is there any way to get someone to take a look at this any time soon? It's been two weeks since the SPI was launched and the suspected sock is still editing. Thanks. Amanuensis Balkanicus (talk) 22:06, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Amanuensis Balkanicus! I'll see if I can't take a look at it myself... It might not be tonight; I have a lot of admin things on my plate that I need to get done first. Either myself or someone will review it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:48, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Disruptive editor

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that the disruptive editor that I reported a couple of weeks ago, hasn't stopped their disruptive editing (judging by the comments left on the 13th of this month) and are now edit warring on the Spanish_Sahara and the Colony of Liberia articles. Your assistance in this matter will be highly appreciated. Thanks. M.Bitton (talk) 15:56, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

User:FlippyPuppetJimmyNeutronShow68

Hello Oshwah. I believe that I have found another sockpuppet of Rgalo10 called User:FlippyPuppetJimmyNeutronShow68. I believe that FlippyPuppetJimmyNeutronShow68 is a sock because on Commons, they seem to rant about Pandakekok9, similar to another one of his sockpuppets. While this account has been already blocked for another reason, I believe it needs to be categorized so others can know Rgalo10's sockpuppet accounts. Would it be appropiate to add a sockpuppet tag similar to this? ETI 15TrSF (Chat Box) 22:43, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Eti15TrSf! If it's a suspected sock puppet, let's create a report at SPI. If the evidence speaks for itself, we can tag the user there. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:25, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
I made a new SPI case at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Rgalo10. ETI 15TrSF (Chat Box) 23:57, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
Eti15TrSf - Perfect! I just investigated and closed it out. Thanks for doing that! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:39, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
One more question. Do global account locks imply that a person can never edit any Wikimedia project forever (or until they become unblocked)? ETI 15TrSF (Chat Box) 01:53, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Eti15TrSf - A global lock simply prevents a user from being able to log into any Wikimedia project website at all until their account is unlocked. The MediaWiki software will not allow the user to log in if their account is locked. Only a Steward can globally lock accounts. There's no policy or implication behind the reason why an account is locked. It doesn't WP:BAN anyone from participation in the project, but the reason why an account is locked is usually because of cross-wiki abuse or because that user has already long crossed into that territory. Let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:18, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Cyberpunk 2029

You previously blocked User:Cyberpunk 2029 for 72 hours mainly due to his/her problematic behavior and refusal to communicate with other editors. Now there appears to be an an WP:EDITWAR with regarding Expo 2025 with this back and forth here, here, and here. Nothing malicious but unexplained back and forth changes. This editor has not used edit summaries and does not appear to have communicated with other editors when problems arise. The editor's talk page does not show any responses to warnings. Blue Riband► 03:39, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Blue Riband! Thanks for expressing your concerns regarding Cyberpunk 2029 and the Expo 2025 article. However, the user only made one revert to the article (you pasted and used the same diff link three times here). If you check the edit history of the article, Cyberpunk 2099 added the word "upcoming", then the user Ytoyoda removed it five days later. Then, four days later, Cyberpunk 2029 added "forthcoming" to the article. Is it worth keeping an eye on? Sure, but I'm not too concerned with this situation as of right now. If you feel that the community should look into this user again and if sanctions are warranted, feel free to file a report at ANI. Sure, this user has issues and other habits that they need to improve on, but this situation alone doesn't warrant any action as of right now. :-) Please let me know if you have any questions or further concerns, and I'll be happy to discuss this with you further. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:04, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
My mistake Oshwah. Cyberpunk 2029 is on a roll with adding unsourced broadcast details for various international tournaments. Uncourced infromation was added for the 2023 Netball World Cup here, the 2023 AFC Asian Cup here and re-added unsourced information for the 2023 Pan American Games here. Just today he/she created a new article with zero citations here (since redirected). I was willing to believe that what we had here was a new editor who really doesn't understand the need to use reliable sources. However Cyberpunk 2029 will not communicate and won't acknowledge that there are problems with his/her editing. Blue Riband► 18:36, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Blue Riband - I agree that this is concerning. There's an ANI discussion going on right now about this user (again); I've added a comment to it. Let me know if I can help with anything else. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:41, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

April Ryan

Hello, today, January 25, 2021, I noticed a message from you dated May 2018 concerning an April Ryan page edit I made. I no longer remember what the edit was or what the source was that I used. In the future, I would like to contribute to the accuracy of Wikipedia, as it is an excellent resource.

Re" remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes (Briancavanagh (talk) 16:08, 25 January 2021 (UTC))," Where do I enter those, as I do not see a place to do so on this page.

(by talk page stalker) Hi, Briancavanagh! The listing of your contributions is quite short (you can find it >here<), hopefully you will not have any problem with finding your only edit from 2018 in it if you are curious. But IMHO, honestly, it's not worth analyzing now. Just forget it. --CiaPan (talk) 17:14, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
(by talk page stalker) Re remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~): they're to be typed at the end of your post, so, rather than regards, Brian Cavanagh, you would write regards, ~~~~. When the post is saved, the tildes turn into a signature. If you need help inserting the tildes, see WP:4TILDES. —2d37 (talk) 10:23, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi Briancavanagh! Thanks for the message, and I'm glad that you're here as a member of the community helping to grow and expand the encyclopedia! If it's from May 2018, don't worry about it. It was a long time ago, and you can ignore it and move on. :-) If you have any questions or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be glad to lend you a hand. :-D I wish you a great day and happy editing. Again, welcome to Wikipedia! We're glad to have you here! I hope you take off your jacket and stay awhile! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:12, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

FRG edits

Just saw your message from six years ago.

Since the event took place at my house - I would think I was the best source for the information. I am not aware of any place I could refer to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by N6tr (talkcontribs) 18:09, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi, N6tr! Probably almost no reader of Wikipedia would know that the information in question was added by you (few people, except sometimes other editors, read the Wikipedia articles' history). Even less would know that you were the host of the event. So for virtually all the world the information you added would by not verifiable. That's why Wikipedia rules require independent, reliable sources, so that each reader can potentially check the facts. Our personal knowledge, first-hand evidence, our own experience or memories do not count – simply because they can not be verified. Streched to the limits of absurd we might say, the truth doesn't matter if it isn't confirmed by independent sources. --CiaPan (talk) 19:50, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi N6tr! Thanks for the message! Remember that you cannot cite "yourself" as a source for content. This is considered original research, and it's not allowed on Wikipedia. In short, "original research" is citing yourself, your experience, or personal relationship, etc with the article subject. All content must be verifiable and be attributable to a reliable source (or have a reliable source cited in-line). If you have any questions about this, please let me know and I'll be happy to explain further and help you. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing! :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:15, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi, regarding this, I believe the articles frequented by the socks need some protection (Mahar, Mahar Regiment). - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 02:48, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Fylindfotberserk! Thanks for the message. Looking at the edit history of Mahar, I can't help but agree that you're right - they could use some protection. Mahar Regiment has had less edits than Mahar, so I'll focus my concerns on that article for now. I'm on the fence... I'm hesitant to throw 30/500 protection on the article, but the sock accounts were autoconfirmed, too... Lets do this: I'll apply semi-protection on both articles for now. Keep en eye on them for me, and if more sock puppet accounts arrive to edit it, let me know and I'll investigate and see what's going on. If they're indeed additional sock puppet accounts, I'll throw 30/500 protection on Mahar to try and put a stop to it. Keep in touch, and keep me updated. :-) Thanks again for the message. Have a great day, and happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:38, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah sure. Thanks. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:40, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Happy to see you!

(by talk page stalker) Wow, 130 edits in a single pass! Even if most of them were half-automatic, that's still really impressive. --CiaPan (talk) 08:52, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi CiaPan! It's good to see you too! 130 edits in a single pass? By me? Where? lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:39, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Revoking TPA again

Sorry to bother you, but I can see you're active - could you please revoke the TPA of MathewMcConnell? They're still promoting a Technical support scam after they've been blocked. Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 09:47, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Pahunkat -  Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:54, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah :-) Pahunkat (talk) 13:12, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat - No problem! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:13, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Q

Oshwah, what would you say in reverting this edit, keeping in mind that it's a student, a new user? Thanks, Dr Aaij (talk) 15:14, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Dr Aaij! It's good to talk to you again. This edit definitely looks like a test edit, which is not vandalism. The assumption of good faith is key in this situation. I went ahead and reverted the edit for you and left this message on their user talk page pointing them to use the Wikipedia sandbox. We were all new once, and I made the same mistakes when I was new (plus a lot more!); so long as they use the sandbox to test, they should be just fine. :-) Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so! :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:21, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Admin's Barnstar
Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for the brilliant work at SPIs. This is to let you know that it is very much appreciated. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 16:42, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi Ashleyyoursmile! Thanks for taking the time to leave me this barnstar! It really means a lot, and I appreciate it greatly. :-) How are the pending changes reviewer and rollback rights doing for you? Did you manage to find a recent changes patrolling script or application that works for you? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:15, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, I'm happy with the tools, especially rollback makes it so easier to revert blatant vandalism these days. During RC patrolling, Red Warn works fine for me and I don't plan to get rid of it anytime soon. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 17:26, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Ashleyyoursmile - Excellent! I'm glad that you're enjoying the tools and making good use of them, and that you were able to find a patrolling tool that you're comfortable with. Keep up the great work; I've been seeing you around quite a lot, and that's awesome! You're doing well here, and we appreciate all of your time and work! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:36, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the kind words. The gratitude is likewise. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 17:43, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Ashleyyoursmile - You bet! Have a great day, and happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:21, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Page move

Hi Oshwah, I am here to wish you a good day. Can you please help me understand why you moved the Sockpuppet investigations/UltraUsurper to another page? Both the socks appear to be newer than the potential Sockpuppeteer account. Walrus Ji (talk) 20:43, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Walrus Ji! The reason I moved the SPI was because the AtlanticOceanA380 account you listed was created before the UltraUsurper account. We always file the SPI and have each report titled under the oldest account accused of sock puppetry (the master account). Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:04, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
But the logs say, Ultrausurper (13 June) was created before AO380 (created 20 Aug). Or am I confused somewhere? Walrus Ji (talk) 21:10, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Walrus Ji - Oh wow. You know what? I'm a bonehead... You're absolutely right. You had the SPI created under the correct account. Thanks for letting me know! I went and fixed my idiot mistake... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:49, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Not my edit

I actually did not edit Dale Earnhardt Jr’s page- must’ve been a mistake. 76.64.14.43 (talk) 01:21, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

(by talk page stalker) Hi, please note the comment at the talk page you're referring to was left by Oshwah in 2016. You are using an IP-address which was then used by someone else, who actually did edit the Dale Earnhardt Jr. article – see the listing of contributions made from your current IP-address here: Special:Contributions/76.64.14.43.
So you can safely ignore the old message. --CiaPan (talk) 10:19, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi there! As CiaPan said above, since it's from 2016, it was likely not you and you can ignore the message. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:49, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi! can I have some help

I got a message saying you reviewed my page. Could I have some help transferring my first crossover article to the main space https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Thelostone41/sandbox?Thelostone41 (talk) 05:25, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Thelostone41! Thanks for leaving me a message here. Because you're a new user, I recommend going through the articles for creation process. This allows you to create a draft of the article and submit it for review. Once a reviewer has read through your draft, it'll be moved into the article space (mainspace) and become an article (assuming no issues are found). Please let me know if you have any questions about this, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Welcome to Wikipedia, by the way! I'm glad that you're here, and I hope that you take off your jacket and stay awhile! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:35, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Message I Received From Oshwah About An Edit

Hi! I got a message saying you removed an edit on a page I made. I'd just like to say I did not make any edit and I do not have a Wikipedia account. I don't know how you thought I made the edit or how you were able to message me but I just wanted to clarify that I did not make any edits. Thank you. Mia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.80.185.10 (talk) 20:19, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

You're very likely on a dynamic or otherwise shared IP. IP addresses are rarely, if ever, used solely by one person. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Takes a strong man to deny... 00:04, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi there! Like Jéské Couriano said, the message was likely intended for another person, so you can ignore it if you didn't make the edit. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:00, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Potential LTA?

Hi Oshwah. I know you're an expert at LTA cases so I thought it would be best to ask for your advice. I recently undid some vandalism from a newly created account. I took a look into the user's edit filter log and I noticed that they tripped an LTA filter multiple times. Does this mean that the system suspects them of being a specific LTA? If yes, how should I deal with this? Thanks! Dr. Swag Lord (talk) 11:14, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d! What user account is it? What filter ID number did the user trip? I can take a look and see what's going on... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:01, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, The user is BreadParry, who was recently indeffed for multiple BLP vios. The filter ID number is LTA 1053 Dr. Swag Lord (talk) 00:24, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d! This user looks to be a common vandal. I ran a checkuser, and it didn't come back to anything I could confirm. I think we can call this case closed. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:33, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, Ok great! I took a look at WP:LONG and they seemed to match the description of one partuiclar user, so thats why I was worried. Thank you for checking. Dr. Swag Lord (talk) 00:37, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d - No problem! Have a great rest of your day! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:59, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
