Preetika Rajgariah[edit]

Preetika Rajgariah (born in India, residing in Houston, Texas) is a visual artist whose work often focuses on concepts of otherness, diaspora, race, and gender. Although she originally characterized herself as a painter, in recent years she has branched into other media, including saris and Sindoor powder, as she explores her Indian roots in her art.[1]

During an 2018 interview with Arts and Culture Texas Magazine, Rajgariah spoke about how "otherness" factors into her artwork:

“The feeling of otherness feeds my work, both my otherness within the Indian community as the child of an immigrant family raised in America, and as an ‘other’ in America, namely one with dark skin.”[1]
