Peter J. Teuben (born January 28, 1958) is a Dutch-American astrophysicist, best known for his work in galactic dynamics and hydrodynamics and in community software development. Using the NEMO extendible Stellar Dynamics Toolbox, which he co-authored with Joshua Barnes and Piet Hut, he studies hydrodynamics in barred galaxies for comparison to mm-wavelength molecular observations from BIMA and CARMA. He has a long-term involvement in development of community software for visualization and analysis of N-body and related simulations. He is involved in the international Virtual Observatory (VO) effort[1] and chairs the Advisory Committee of the Astrophysics Source Code Library.[2]

He received his PhD from the University of Groningen in 1986 (title: "Dynamics of Barred Galaxies", advisor: T.S. van Albada). Previously he held research assistantships at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and the Astronomy Department at the University of Illinois in Urbana.

Teuben is a Principal Research Scientist in the Astronomy Department at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD.[3] He holds membership in the American Astronomical Society[4] and International Astronomical Union[5], and is a member of the Program Organizing Committee of the international Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems.[6]

Badminton[edit]

Teuben is active in community and collegiate badminton and USA Badminton junior ranking events.[7]
