Heglund was a conscript in a Norwegian anti-aircraft battery in Oslo when Poland was invaded in 1939. When his national service period ended, he applied for the Army Air Service Pilot School, but it was after the application date. He then went to Switzerland for engineering studies. When Germany attacked Norway in April 1940, he and fellow student [[Jens Müller (pilot)|Jens Müller]] signed on a ship heading for Portsmouth. It is a parkland course located south of [[Bogstadvannet]] and [[Sørkedalen]]. When the young ship broker Ragnar Halle came home after years abroad, he wanted to form a golf club to continue to play the game he had learned in United Kingdom. A commitee was set to explore the possibilites to lend land for a golf course. In June 1924 the committee got a deal with landowner [[Westye Parr Egeberg (1877-1959)|Westye Egeberg]] at [[Bogstad]]. He was willing to let the golf club hire a portion of his estate south of [[Bogstadvannet]]. Few days later Kristiania Golf Klub was founded. The first hiring was the skier [[Johan Grøttumsbråten]] as assistant [[green keeper]]. The first few holes were soon planted, and as funds allowed more holes were laid out. Within a few years more land was needed. The present club house was erected in 1935. Prior to that, an old refurnished barn had served as club house. This barn burned down during the Second World War. Oslo Golfklubb was, with Borregaard Golfklubb, Høsbjør Golfklubb and Bergen Golfklubb, a founding member of the national golf federation, Norges Golfforbund, in 1948. The club's influence in Norwegian golf was huge; it took 33 years before the federation got a chairman from another club than Oslo, and from 1948 to 1956 the club championship also counted as the national championship. The course has been host to two [[Ladies European Tour]] events, [[SAS Masters (women's golf)|P4 Norwegian Masters]] in 2002 and [[SAS Masters (women's golf)|SAS Masters]] in 2006, both won by [[Laura Davies]]. From 1995 to 1997 it was host to [[Norwegian Challenge]] on the [[Challenge Tour]].
