Joydeep Mukherjee, once a successful corporate executive, transitioned from his thriving corporate career to pursue his passion for music. In a significant instance, the esteemed Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, highlighted the name of Joydeep Mukherjee during his 'Mann ki Baat' radio broadcast while discussing the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awarded by the Sangeet Natak Academy.

Joydeep Mukherjee was born on August 24th, 1982, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He hails from a family with his mother, Shikha Mukherjee, and his late father, Gouranga Kumar Mukherjee. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Technology, he further pursued a master’s in Management from Symbiosis, Pune, where he achieved the second rank. Following this, he dedicated 11 years to a Research and Consulting firm before embarking on a full-time musical journey. In 2014, he tied the knot with Jhuma Mukherjee, a native of Varanasi, and the couple was later blessed with a child named Joshajeet.

Commencing his musical journey at the tender age of 4, under the guidance of Pranab Kumar Naha, a prominent disciple of Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra, Joydeep Mukherjee stands as an accomplished Indian Classical Musician. Displaying his mastery across various instruments such as the Sarod, Sursingar, and Mohanveena (a creation of Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra), he has gained worldwide acclaim for his efforts in reviving and performing India's rare and almost-forgotten musical instruments. Highly regarded for his proficiency in playing the Sarod and the unique and scarcely seen Mohanveena & Sursingar, Joydeep Mukherjee is an emerging force in the realm of music. He proudly represents the traditional Senia Shahjehanpur Gharana.

As an ardent disciple of the renowned music maestro, the late Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra, Joydeep continues to receive guidance and training from him. Additionally, he has been honing his skills in rhythm and vocal expression under the tutelage of Tabla virtuoso Pt. Debashish Sarkar, who himself was mentored by the late Pt. Kanai Dutta & Late Pt. Jnan Prakash Ghosh since 2013. During 2016–17, Joydeep Mukherjee embarked on a mission to resurrect some of these nearly extinct instruments, bringing back the glory of their past performances to the contemporary stage.

Notably, in July 2022, Joydeep Mukherjee achieved a remarkable feat by setting a World record for uploading the highest number of Sursingar videos. His accomplishment earned him recognition in both The India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.

Beyond his instrumental prowess, [1]Joydeep Mukherjee is a prolific composer and a passionate experimenter, greatly inspired by the creative contributions of Padma Bhushan Pt. Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Drawing inspiration from Pt. Dasgupta's innovative interpretations of Tagore's compositions, Joydeep has crafted over 20 classical instrumental bandishes based on Tagore's songs.
