Introduction[edit]

Bhavya Bishnoi (born on 16 February 1993 ) is a young political leader[1] from Adampur, Hisar, in Haryana. He is the eldest grandson of Union Cabinet Minister (Agriculture; Environment & Forests) and three-time Chief Minister of Haryana, Ch. Bhajan Lal. [2]

His parents - Kuldeep Bishnoi and Renuka Bishnoi [3] - are currently serving as Members of Legislative Assembly from Adampur and Hansi in Haryana, India, respectively. [4]He has two younger siblings - a brother, Chaitanya, who is a professional cricketer with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and also represents Haryana in the Ranji Trophy, and a sister, Sia, who is pursuing design at Parsons Art and Design School, New York, USA. Education and Early Life[edit]

In grade 10, he topped Delhi-NCR in the ICSE examination with a score of 96.6%. [6] During higher secondary school level, Bhavya topped the north Indian region with 43 points (out of a total of 45) in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme from The Shri Ram School [7] in Gurugram, Haryana, India. [8]

In 2011, he joined the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, to complete BSc in Government and Economics. [9] Bhavya continued his deep interest in cricket and captained the LSE First XI, cricket team. [10]

At Oxford University,[11] UK, Bhavya completed his MSc in Contemporary India in 2016.[12] He was also awarded an Oxford Blue to commemorate his excellent[13]

Professional Career[edit]

After completing his studies in 2016, he joined the Leadership Development Programme at The Global Education & Leadership Foundation [14](tGELF) where he co-founded, project managed and was the spokesperson for, Global Citizen India, a citizen-driven movement to end extreme poverty in India by 2030. [15]

At tGELF, Bhavya launched a movement named Shuruaat Bus, in order to identify and guide young entrepreneurs of India. In partnership with Facebook and Apollo Tyres, the Shuruaat Bus travelled through several cities, including Jaipur, Pune, Lucknow, and Hyderabad - inviting young minds to implement their ideas and make a scalable impact. Bhavya has a strong belief in sustainable and inclusive development. Drawing inspiration from his roots, the Bishnoi community - the world’s first environmentalists - he embarked on the Global Himalayan Expedition with 20 people from 9 countries to electrify remote villages in Leh, Ladakh using solar energy. [17]

In October 2017, Bhavya founded Bhajan Global Impact Foundation (BGIF) named after and inspired by the lifeworks of his grandfather, Ch. Bhajan Lal. It is a think-and-do-tank established to tackle key development challenges in Haryana through evidence-based, solution-oriented policy design and impact intervention. [18]

Political Career[edit]

Bhavya was introduced to and became involved in, politics at a young age through observing his grandfather and father as an integral part of the political setting in Haryana. He has been actively involved in campaigning for his father since he was a young man.[19]

He served as the National President of Janhit Student Organisation (JSO), the student wing of Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) between July 2013 and September 2015. He advocated for issues such as the reinstatement of student elections in Haryana, better quality of education and sports facilities, equitable employment opportunities for youth, among others. He articulated these concerns through various platforms and personally handed over a letter to the Chief Minister of Haryana in April 2015. [20]

He has also been an active member of the Indian National Congress. He has been participating in various events and rallies across Haryana engaging in one-on-one conversations with people, especially the youth. He is also a delegate from Haryana in the All India Congress Committee (AICC), responsible for the task of recruiting ‘campaign strategists’ for Haryana Assembly elections to be held in Septemeber 2019. Bhavya was recognised for his innovative approach to politics with the launch of Team Bhavya app which has gamified his digital campaign. [22]Bhavya Bishnoi is likely to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Hisar, Haryana, from the Indian National Congress. [23]
