Health care in Seychelles
There is a health care centre within 7 km of every home. There is a doctor for every 700 people and primary health care is free at all government institutions.
Since 1977, the Government of Seychelles has consistently spent a large fraction of its national budget on health. The World Health Organization puts Seychelles spending on health at 4.7% of GDP and 1197 USD per capita, for the year 2012 [1].
Seychelles' investment in health has been translated into impressive health outcomes in relation to life expectancy, infant mortality rates [2]and maternal mortality rates.
Many attribute Seychelles good public health indicators to Government's heavy investments into the social sectors and the other sectors that impact heavily on health. Education, housing, employment, environmental protection, water sanitation, agriculture, fisheries have all benefited from heavy investments [3].
