World War I by country covers an overview of World War I by each individual country.

Abkhazia[edit]

In 1917, shortly before the start of the Russian Civil War that overlapped with World War I, Abkhazia became part of the Mountainous Republic of the Northern Caucasus.[1]

Afghanistan[edit]

The Emirate of Afghanistan was officially neutral in World War I, however they were under pressure from the German Empire and Ottoman Empire to join.[2] The Central Powers attempted to get Afghanistan to join the war by sending the Niedermayer–Hentig Expedition to their emir, however the expedition failed due to the diplomats getting drunk off beer.[3] This was part of the larger Hindu–German Conspiracy.

Albania[edit]

The Principality of Albania was officially neutral in World War I from 1914-1915. However, a month before the outbreak of World War I, the Albanian government signed the Protocol of Corfu with the Autonomous Republic of Northern Epirus.[4] Prior to this, the Albanians had fought off the Ottoman Empire in the Peasant Revolt in Albania with Austro-Hungarian support.[5] In winter of 1915, the Kingdom of Serbia's forces fled into Albania the so-called 'Great Retreat'.[6] Austria-Hungary and the Tsardom of Bulgaria chased the Serbians and occupied Albania for most of the war from 1916-1918. However, by November of 1918, Albania was liberated by the Allies of World War I.[7]

Algeria[edit]

During World War I, French Algeria was part of the Allies as a French colony.[8]

Andorra[edit]

Andorra, officially the Principality of Andorra, was officially neutral during World War I and didn't get involved on either side. However, due to how the government of Andorra with the co-Princes of Andorra including the President of France, Andorra was unofficially at war with Central Powers.[9]

Angola[edit]

During World War I, Angola was a Portuguese colony, making it bound to the Allies when the German Empire declared war on Portugal.[10]
