Suzuka Tomita (Japanese: 富田鈴花, Hepburn: Tomita Suzuka, born January 18, 2001 in Kanagawa Prefecture)[1] is a Japanese singer and television presenter. She is a member of the girl group Hinatazaka46.

Early life and education[edit]

Tomita was named after the Suzuka International Racing Course, as her mother is a Formula One fan. As a child, Tomita's father exposed her to various activities, including radio announcing, video recording, and cheerleading at the Tokyo Dome.[2]

Tomita was in the audience at the Hiragana Keyakizaka46 1st Anniversary Live concert where the group's second generation recruitment was announced and took part in the audition.[3] On August 15, 2017, she was publicly introduced as one of the nine Hiragana Keyakizaka46 second generation members.[4] Her nickname is Suzy (すーじー) and her fandom name is Suzyko (すじこ).[5]

She writes poetry under the pen name Suzuo (すずお).[6][7] Due to her rapping ability, she formerly used the nickname Paripi (パリピ, short for "party people"), which was decided through fan voting on a Showroom livestream, and the catchphrase "I've been a party animal since I was still an embryo" (胎児の時からワチキはパリピ, Taiji no toki kara wachiki wa paripi).[8][9]

Tomita plays the bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitar, and piano.[10][11] She has composed music for the group's television show[12] and web content,[13] and occasionally conducts solo sessions in her home studio.[6] She also often performs rapping in live events and television shows, but does not do freestyle rap.[14][15][16][17]

Tomita, Matsuda and Miho Watanabe often appear in interviews and television shows together, and are known as the Gorigori Donuts (ごりごりドーナッツ, lit. 'Pushy Donuts').[18][19][20][21]

On May 6, 2022, Tomita performed "Do Re Mi Sol La Si Do" on the YouTube channel The First Take with first generation members Shiho Katō, Kumi Sasaki, and Mirei Sasaki.[22]

At the time of her debut, Tomita declared her intention to be active in both music and variety shows.[9]

In television shows, Tomita is best known for her ability in impressions and "lovable loser" character, habitually taking on various challenges and failing in humorous ways.[23][24][25] She aspires to become like comedian Toshiaki Kasuga, co-host of Hinatazaka de Aimashō, who is "dignified and well-prepared and can brighten up a room just by being there".[26]

In December 2021, Tomita cleared nine out of ten stages of karaoke challenge in the Fuji TV variety show Onirenchan, hosted by the comedy duo Chidori, breaking the show's record for idols.[27][28][16]

Tomita was a regular Wednesday co-host for the TBS morning show Love It! [ja] from April to June 2022, joining the "Love It! Family" of entertainers appointed in similar roles. This would be her first regular television appearance outside Hinatazaka46's shows.[25]

Tomita was appointed a co-host for Super Formula Championship variety show on BS Fuji, Go On! Next Circuit de Aimashō (GO ON！ NEXT〜サーキットで会いましょう〜, lit. 'Go On! Let's Meet at the Next Circuit'), which title was inspired by the Hinatazaka46 regular show Hinatazaka de Aimashō.[29]

Tomita owns a dog named Nina.[30] She enjoys conducting solo sessions in her home studio.[6]
