  • Hoodsnahoo: Khootznahoo ("bear fort" in Tlingit).[5] Located somewhere near Angoon, on west coast of Admiralty Island: Letushkwin: Tlingit village; on N shore of Chaik Bay; var. names Bear Fort Khudsnu, Old Khootznahoo, Old Kootznahoo.[6] Kootznahoo Head: Tlingit Indian name meaning "bear fort"; locally pronounced "Hu-che-nu." Name also used for the rum distilled by the Indians by method learned by them from the white soldiers in the area. "Hootch," a derivative of this name, has long been used as a colloquial term for "moonshine".[7] Kootznahoo Inlet: "extends from Mitchell Bay to Chatham Strait, at Angoon, on W coast of Admiralty I."; variant names incl: Hoochinoo, Hoosnoff, Houchnou, Houchnov, Hudsunoo, Khutz-n'hu, Kootsnoo, Koutsnou, Koutsnow, Kutznou.[8] Killisnoo Harbor: corruption of a Tlingit Indian word which is apparently another form of "Khutz-n'hu" meaning "bear fort." Variant name: Koteosok.[9]

  • Kasaan: Kassarn.

  • Tongass: today called Tamgas Harbor;[11] "on Annette Island at the entrance to Clarence Strait";[5] Tumgass, Gavan Tomgaz, Tomgass Harbor; in the 1830s was said to be the most popular wintering place for American ships.[5]
  • Kaigani: General name for Kaigani Strait, between Dall Island and Long Island, north of Cape Muzon; especially three inlets on Dall Island, at the southern end of the strait:
    • Kaigani Harbors: collective name for all three harbors; Gavan Kaigan, Kai-gah-nee Harbors;[12] Clegauhny, Legonee. Was "the Spaniards' Nuestra Señora de los Dolores".[5]
