Hello! I am a fun-sized person. :3

Work for english class

Possible topics for article: Ameyo Adadevoh Sharon L. Camp (no existing article) Woman's Capital Corporation (no existing article)

Final article topic choice: Ameyo Adadevoh My partner and I plan to organize her page by providing sections for her biography and published works. Within the biography section we plan to talk about her early life, medical education and career, work with Ebola, her family, and her death and legacy. Each of these will be subheadings. We also hope to add a picture of Ameyo. Note the live article has a broken reference link to the Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh Health Trust website. We will revise that.

Project 3 Reflection[edit]

Brainstorming/Organization - Things I did well: being meticulous about following guidelines for wikipedia, neutral writing, unbiased sources, formatting - Things I did poorly / what was challenging: could have done some deeper research into non internet resources, paraphrasing correctly was challenging - How easy was it to write neutrally: personally thought it was really easy - How easy was it to find sources that met wikipedia standards: hard lots of obscure Nigerian news stations - How was working with another person - interesting, nothing went wrong but im a perfectionist so I rather not, makes getting things done more complex

Other things I want to talk about - Come to realize quality over quantity - Interesting to think about manipulating wording to have more links - Interesting to see where the gaps in wiki are missing and what that means about wiki writers and our society - Things that were scary --Interacting with wikipedia was scary, you use it all the time and surreal to enter ameyo adadevoh and see my work --Posted some feedback on my high school page and person disagreed with me, had to learn to let it go --First time i’ve ever directly changed someone else’s work -My greater appreciation for wiki --Seeing the intricacies of wikipedia, how extensive it is, how organized it is -Things that were challenging --Thinking of a meaningful topic to write about is hard --Learning how to use wikipedia (also lead to greater appreciation)

Project 3 Wikipedia Reflection For this project I think I am proudest of my adherence to the conventions of wikipedia. I felt like I was really meticulous in making sure the article was neutral and used sources that fit the criteria. Sources needing be unrelated to the subject was a new requirement I hadn’t encountered before; however, this requirement makes sense given Wikipedia’s goal to remain neutral.

If I could do this assignment again, I would try to find more time to look for information on Ameyo using non-internent accessible sources. The section about her work with swine flu was lacking. All internet sources we found didn’t provide additional detail but perhaps looking in different types of sources would reveal more information.

While I’m on the topic of sources, I have to say that one of the challenges I faced was finding appropriate sources. Since Ameyo is Nigerian, a lot of small, Nigerian news stations wrote about her. These sources also included a lot of detail that international news publications didn’t, making it hard to find a wide range of information from Ameyo that came from reliable sources. The biggest challenge of this project was finding a notable topic to write about. There’s so many things one can choose to write about but choosing and finding a notable topic that hasn’t been adequately covered and is a reasonable subject for me to tackle given my experience and time frame was challenging. Searching for a topic did lead me to see how incomplete Wikipedia is and the vastness of this world.

One of the largest emphasis for this project was writing neutrally. I personally didn’t think this was hard. I also found identifying biased words in my peers work or the stub I was adding to to be pretty easy.

One of the most unique aspects of this project its done in pairs. I don’t think I’ve ever had to write one piece of work with another person (unless it was code or a power point presentation). My experience of doing partner work was pretty neutral. There were no conflicts or issues but as a person who likes control I would preferred to work independently so I could make decisions and progress more efficiently. Whenever I work in with one or more people I feel like I have to take the feelings and opinions of others into consideration which adds extra stress to my plate. However, I realize that group work is a reality in all fields.

Writing a Wikipedia article is a unique because Wikipedia is global. As a result, doing a lot of things were scary. I posted a review of my high school's wikipedia page and a person disagreed with me. I felt like they were a little rude, although I realize that reading a person’s words leaves out their tone of voice. It’s possible that they may have misread my tone as being pretentious.Moving my article into the live version was also scary because I’ve never directly changed someone’s work before. It’s also surreal, scary, and cool to be able to Google Ameyo Adadevoh and have the Wikipedia page I wrote come up as the first result.

Learning about Wikipedia was probably the most interesting part of this project. I use Wikipedia so often and to see the intricacies, classifications, categorizations, templates, and projects that they have is fascinating. Finding out where major gaps exist and who the typical writer is gave me a lot to think about also.
