Early Life[edit]

Robert LaFlamme was born on 27 April 1961 in Providence, Rhode Island, USA.  Parents: late Joan Marie Hall and late Raymond Aurthur LaFlamme.   Sister Diane Lee, and dear brother, the late Raymond LaFlamme, Jr.     Named for his Grandfather, Alfred G. LaFlamme who was from the French Quarter, Quebec. His wife, Bertha, owned and operated a milinary shop much in the same way Coco-Channel did in Dueville.    Mother's mother Elizabeth, was an avid collector of porcelains, plates, China, and all types of collectibles from France.   Her husband, James Hall, was a carpenter who built their house in the 1950's.

LaFlamme's love of art started with his Grandfather, Alfred, who was LaFlamme's sometimes baby sitter starting at about age 7, and he built houses for a living, and created beautiful elegant home interiors.   Elizabeth, his grandmother, made apricot pies and was brilliant.   Grandmother Elizabeth's love of fine arts was something that she passed on to her daughter Joan, his mother, and him.   Elizabeth was an avid collector of porcelains, plates, ornate vases, urns, china, and all types of elegant fine art collectibles from her many visits to France and started LaFlamme's curiosity about fine arts and France.

All of LaFlamme's books have been dedicated to his sister Carol's dog Kona, who was and always will be, LaFlamme's 1st and true love.

After graduating from Bryant University in 1984, he moved to Kailua, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu at age 22.    He is an abstract painter, photographer, and lover of art and architecture, and art history.    In 2006, he was showcased as one of the 100 "Artists of Hawaii" at the acclaimed Pauahi Tower exhibit in Honolulu.    He has been a member of the Academy of Arts since around 1984 (now, the Honolulu Museum of Art.)   In the 1990's and 2000's, LaFlamme fulfilled a long career in banking as Vice President and Compliance Director and held 11 chairmanships in a number of bank committees. His proudest title is being a member of the "Artists of Hawaii" since 2006.

Early paintings in the 1980's of LaFlamme's, include works that were more hobbies, and only for viewing on the walls of his house. Inspirations for his art work comes from all around the world.

While he has not met many of the celebrities, photographers, directors, or actors listed in his Biography in person, those people nonetheless are so much of his inspiration in his art work and photography, particularly Annie Leibowitz, David LaChapelle, Tony Shafrazi, Andy Warholl, Patrick Demarchelier, and Anna Wintour.

Besides being a painter, author and photographer, LaFlamme is an accomplished art historian. He currently resides in Kailua, Hawai'i on the island of O'ahu.    A copy of Picasso's Tette Le Femme (Portrait of Dora Marr) hangs in the living room of his house, overseeing all of LaFlamme's art and photography books.   The published works are part of a series entitled "LaFlamme's Behind the Garden Gates" series and is available online and in most major book stores.
