History[edit]

Harper's Athletic Football Club is an amateur co-ed football team based in and around Detroit, Michigan. It was founded by captain Danny Horen as Whiskey in the Jar and rebranded in 2018 as Harper's AFC. Players are selected from around metro Detroit. Harper's is committed to being a welcoming community and works to promote tolerance both in its ranks and in it's hometown. Players and fans of the squad have a sense of humor around Harper's, referring to it as "America's favorite beer-league team since 1776, established 2018". Despite its amateur status, Harper's has a number of individuals with talents outside football that make the squad appear more professional than it is.

Harper's does not play traditional seasons. Instead it plays "Campaigns" that are divided into "Sessions". Sessions last 2~3 months and a campaign lasts from March to February. Campaigns are named for the year they began in.

Rivalries[edit]

Harper's has a few rivalries with some of the other permanent fixtures in the DCFL. Most notably is the "Green Derby", a friendly rivalry with Cabbage Patch FC. Others include a friendly rivalry with Scripp's Park and a more serious rivalry with Hamtramck.

Campaign Results[edit]

Kits[edit]

Harper's primary kits follow a simple pattern of green and black hoops, referenced in their crest, with white sleeves and shoulders. The green hoops are a call-out to Celtic FC, with black being chosen over white as the combination appealed to the designer. The 2019-2020 secondary kits are a reference to both of Harper's previous incarnations as "Whiskey in the Jar", who wore sky blue and "FC Quails", purple and sky blue. Unique or one-off kits are used for important games or, as was the case in spring 2019, time in between sponsors.
