Carol Kramer Serling (born Carolyn L. Kramer; February 3, 1929) was an American producer known best for her work on The Twilight Zone, a 1959 science-fiction television series.[1] After Rod Serling died, Carol looked after his writings and legacy, and managed a revival of his most popular work, the Twilight Zone.[2] Besides her work on that television series, she also acted as a consulting editor for the magazine Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone Magazine.[3] She died on January 9, 2020 in her home in Pacific Palisades, California.[2]
Life[edit]
Carolyn L. Kramer was born on February 3, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio. She was the daughter of Warren and Ann Caldwell Kramer. Her mother, Ann, died when Carol was 18 months old. Her grandparents, Frank and Louise Orton Caldwell, raised her in Columbus. There, she attended The Ohio State University Laboratory School. She graduated from secondary education at the MacDuffie School in Springfield, Massachusetts.[1]
She went to the Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, for a degree in elementary education.[3] During her freshman year there, she met Rod Serling, who was there to attend the college as a veteran of World War II. On July 31, 1948, Carol and Rod were married, and she took his name. They graduated from the college together in 1950. That same year, the couple moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, for Rod's job at a local radio station.[1]
Carol moved again with Rod to Westport, Connecticut, where Rod was able to take on writing full time and be closer to New York City's television opportunities. In the mid-1950s, they made a similar move, this time with their two daughters, to Pacific Palisades in California. There, Carol volunteered while Rod pursued writing. Her more prominent focuses were in the Fair Housing Council and the League of Women Voters.[1]
In 1984, Carol joined the Ithaca College Board of Trustees based in Ithaca, New York. She also served on the Board of Trustees of Antioch College.[1][2]
