PARADISE CAMP FIRE

On November 8th, 2018, a fire started in Paradise, California. There have been many cases of wildfires reported in the United States, but Paradise has been marked to be the most critical case of wildfires in history. The Camp Fire destroyed 95 percent of Paradise, burning approximately 153,336 acres and destroying 18,793 structures. It was also reported that 85 civilians were killed by the fire, most of these civilians being elders. Chico's population soon began to rise due to people from Paradise migrating. While it took 17 days for the fire to be contained, an estimate of 7,000 civilians from the camp fire were now homeless. Most of these individuals were camping in tents, vehicles, and/or outside in the store's parking lots. Many residents of Paradise began to file lawsuits against PG&E for the cause of the wildfire.

BACKGROUND

Paradise is located in Butte County, which is thirteen miles out of Chico, California. Paradise contained close to 27,000 residents, majority of the population being made up by Caucasians by 82 percent.
