The 1994 FIFA Rimet Cup was the 6th edition of FIFA Rimet Cup, a quadrennial world championship for men's national football teams organized by FIFA, for the top teams in FIFA World Cup qualification that do not qualify for the FIFA World Cup. It took place in France from 13 May to 13 June 1994, after the country was awarded the hosting rights in 1993.

Qualification[edit]

Qualification for the FIFA World Cup doubled as qualification to the FIFA Rimet Cup. There were a total of 32 spots available in the tournament. Of these 32 spots, 11 went to UEFA (1 went to the hosts, France), 6 went to AFC, 6 went to CAF, 4 went to CONCACAF, 3 went to CONMEBOL, and 1 went to OFC.

Draw[edit]

The draw was held on 20 March 2002, at 18:00 CEST, in Paris. The 32 teams were drawn into eight groups of four.

For the draw, the teams were allocated to four pots based on the FIFA World Rankings of March 1998. Pot 1 contained the hosts France (who were automatically assigned to Position A1) and the best seven teams, Pot 2 contained the next best eight teams, and so on for Pots 3 and 4.
