Strategies for contestants on the game show Jeopardy! have been developed during the show's decades-long run.

Main game strategies[edit]

Clue selection[edit]

  • Forrest bounce
  • Selecting bottom-row clues first

Daily double betting[edit]

  • Trebek criticizing small wagers, especially in favorite categories (p. 69)

Final Jeopardy! strategies[edit]

Basic strategy[edit]

  • If A > 2B, leader should bet small to win
  • Otherwise, leaders generally bet to win
  • If 2B > A > 3B/2, B should bet (nearly) everything, since he must be right to have a chance

Advanced wagering[edit]

  • Mixed strategies from Gilbert and Hatcher
  • Maybe Trebek and Barsocchini p. 69 advice in close games?

Wagering to tie[edit]

  • Note the rule change
  • Trebek's advice against wagering to tie (Trebek and Barsocchini p. 70 "the player you tie today might beat you tomorrow")
  • Williams's argument in favor (Chu media accounts)
