Preservation/Curing/Leather The curing[1] means temporary preservation of hides and skins. The time between flaying operations and the start of tannery operations vary from one to two months. If the skins/hides are not cured immediately after flaying, they get completely putrefied within 2/3 days. The putrefaction of skins/hides are occurred due to attack by bacteria. So by either restrictig the bacterial growth or by killing the bacteria the skin/hide can be prevented from putrefaction.

  • Prevent putrefacion by restricting Bacterial growth is called Bacteriostatic.
  • Prevent putrefaction by killing the Bacteria in the skin/hide is called Bacteriocidal.
