Josef Vacek ( 18th July 1907 , Prague - 8. December 1987 , Prague) was a Czech artist and painter . He was from a Bohemian family named Watzke, most of whose members identified as German, despite ancestral Czech origins. During his childhood, the family changed their spelling from the German Watzke, to the Czech Vacke (pronounced identically), to emphasize their identity as Czech. A number of Watzke families did the same, especially after 1945.[1]
