User:Red Phoenix/Recall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As an administrator, I have expressed that I think it's important to be open to recall. The reason for this is that we as an English Wikipedia do not as of yet possess a community de-sysopping process, and I do feel that if I have truly lost the trust of the community, then it's not right for me to continue to carry the tools. Obviously, I would hope it never comes to that, but I still feel it's important to install a process.

The process[edit]

Although it's not exactly to the process, my model is inspired by that of the German Wikipedia. Here is what I will require to consider recall:

  • A notification of a discussion must be placed on my talk page. I would recommend that such a discussion happen on my talk page, as well.
  • At least four editors, with a minimum of extended confirmed status, must sign the notice of attempt to start a recall discussion
    • Of those four, none can be editors that I am considered involved with. This is to prevent someone from starting a disruptive process because I took a negative action against them. That being said, I would allow involved users to be signatories if they so chose.
  • If this requirement is met, I will begin a discussion at the Administrators' noticeboard and ask for review of my conduct from fellow administrators.
  • If a consensus among admins concur that I should stand for recall, not even necessarily that I should be recalled but that I should query the community, a recall discussion and !vote will begin at the noticeboard. In line with the German Wikipedia model, I will voluntarily resign my tools if I receive less than two-thirds consensus to retain from extended-confirmed users, striking any !votes for involved users. A neutral administrator must close the discussion.
  • I will require that I go through RFA again to regain my tools if I surrender them via this recall process.

Naturally, if an editor decides to take me to Arbcom, I will respect and participate in the process. That can be assured, as I do have faith in the arbitration process. I reserve the right to appeal a recall decision to the Arbitration Committee if I feel there has been suspicious behavior in the recall process, such as off-wiki canvassing, in the form of a case request. Should such a case request be declined, I will go forward with the recall procedure regardless.

Goals[edit]

The goal of having a recall process is to assure the community that I will always act in good faith and worthy of your trust. If this process is accomplished, it becomes very clear that I don't - not from editors and not from administrators. Minor situations don't require this process to be initiated; please discuss with me first if you have an issue, and if I have made a mistake, I will correct it. We work best when Wikipedians work together to make the encyclopedia great.
