From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WhyClublet (also known as "Why?) is a wiki website founded by Richard Drake in November 2000, [1] as a fork from Ward Cunningham's WikiWikiWeb, to host pages of discussion on Christian topics.

Creation of WhyClublet[edit]

Richard Drake was one of the four European "WikiReductionists" who undertook to reduce the amount of text on Wiki by a large number of deletions on the morning of Friday 7th April 2000. [2] These deletions mainly attacked the "WikiOnWiki" material on WikiWikiWeb, which consisted of pages discussing the wiki itself, rather than computer programming design patterns, which was supposed to be the main focus of WikiWikiWeb. While most of deleted material was at first put back onto WikiWikiWeb, the longer-term result of the attack was the formation by Sunir Shah of MeatballWiki as an alternative location to carry on WikiOnWiki discussions.

After the creation of MeatballWiki, Ward Cunningham suggested that Richard Drake should create another separate wiki to host discussion of Christian topics. [3] The WhyClublet wiki began operation in November 2000, seeded with pages on Christian topics taken from WikiWikiWeb. [4]

MeatballWiki and WhyClublet were designated as official "SisterSites" of WikiWikiWeb. A stub of each moved page was left on the WikiWikiWeb, containing a link to the new page and the message: "This page exists only on SisterSites." The implementation of SisterSites at the level of changes to the Wiki script dates from 2001. [5]
