Access to affordable medicine refers to the ability of individuals to be able to afford the medicine they need so that the price of the medicine is not a barrier to their health care. It is usually concerned with access to essential medicines and life-saving treatments but it can be applied to all conditions (such as chronic illnesses). It is a term that is particularly associated with Universal Health Care and the right to health. Access to affordable medicine is referenced in Goal 3.8 of the Sustainable Development Goals:
