Age restrictions[edit]

This document lists player eligibility, especially age restriction, of major sports competitions.

General principle[edit]

  • FIFA: Eligible birth year = Year of competition - age
  • FIBA: Eligible birth year = Year of competition - age[1]
  • FIVB: Eligible birth year = Year of competition - age + 1

  1. FIBA Asia U-16 Championship was planned to be held in 2021, but postponed to 2022. It seems that they stick to allow players born on or after 2005 to participate, maybe to align with 2022 FIBA U-17 World Cup.
  2. AVC U-18 Girl's Championship was originally U-17 competition for players born on or after 2006[6], but later changed to U-18 so the age restiction was also changed to 2005.

Handball[edit]

Basically calendar year. Men youth 21 junior 19, women youth 20 junior 18. If a continental competition of the world Uxx competition is held a year earlier, it is still called Uxx competition instead of U(xx-1)
