I am starting a project of gradually improving physical chemistry articles. If you would like to provide feedback or suggestions, please place them under the appropriate heading in the "Work in Progress" section, accessed via the tab at the top of the page.

Work in Progress[edit]

Joule-Thomson effect[edit]

Done to date:

Corrections made to the bullet points under Description.
Revised the section on "Derivation of the Joule–Thomson coefficient".
Under Description Replaced an inappropriate diagram and the accompanying text which was is confusing and/or erroneous. Moved content from the last paragraph to the section on applications.
Rewrote section on Physical mechanism.

Intermolecular force[edit]

Done to date:

Added a new section Effect on the behavior of gases. This is needed for the discussion of the compressibility factor and partly fills in a need for more information on the effects of intermolecular forces.

Compressibility factor[edit]

Done to date:

A physical description of why compressibility factors vary as they do as a function of temperature and pressure. This has now been inserted into the article at compressibility factor.

Coexistence curves[edit]

Pending:

There is no such page, but there is one calling them binodals. And the page on phase diagrams does not use either term, instead opting for phase boundaries, which at least is not totally strange. But it is not what I first think of when I hear the term phase boundary, which also means something completely different. And those various pages do not seem to link to each other. So at a minimum, some clarifications and links seem to be needed.

Free expansion / Joule expansion[edit]

Done to date:

Expanded the Description to discuss the effect in general and then specifically for ideal and real gases.

Pending:

There are two different articles on exactly the same topic. Joule expansion is more complete but free expansion is the more commonly used name. They will need to be merged.
The entropy section is out of place here.

Articles that need attention[edit]

If you would like to call my attention to a particular physical chemistry article that needs work, please post that under this heading on my talk page, together with a brief reason why you think the article needs improving.
