Deltec Bank originally focused on private wealth management.
Jean Chalopin took over Deltec Bank in 2010 as executive chairman.
Starting in 2018, Deltec Bank began to pivot towards banking for crypto-currency focused businesses and individuals. This involved getting a number of crypto-related clients, including an important stable coin company, Tether. Deltec announced in 2018 that they were holding 1.8 billion dollars for Tether. This was significant because at the time Deltec was managing only a few billion dollars in total.
