Luis Antonio B. Licas (born November 10, 2003) is a Filipino sports journalist who writes for Tiebreaker Times and was previously a color commentator for Smart Sports. He is currently the sports editor of The GUIDON.

Early life and education[edit]

Licas was born in Mandaluyong on November 10, 2003. He is the eldest son of former Bureau of Immigration officer-in-charge deputy commissioner Jose Carlitos and his wife Sarah (née Boncan), who previously worked at GMA Network.

He took up his elementary and secondary education at San Beda College Alabang where he started out as a campus journalist for their publication, serving as sports editor from 2014 to 2016. During this period, he finished in first place at the Muntinlupa City Division Schools Press Conference in both 2015 and in 2019. He then served as sports editor and editor-in-chief of The Bedan Roar from 2020 to 2022 where he competed at the Camilo Osias Arts Festival where he was named as the Most Oustanding Student Journalist after topping both News Writing and Sports Writing.[3]

In college, he joined The GUIDON in his first year at the Ateneo and was named sports editor in 2024, during the publication's 95th year. At the same time, he competed for the university's track and field team with his most notable achievement being his 21st place finish at the 2023 PATAFA Weekly Relay Series.

Career[edit]

As early as 2016, he already got a start after collaborating with American sports content creator Kenny Beecham in his now-defunct basketball website The Foul Shot, writing a handful of articles for the platform under the name Luis de la Cruz.[4]

During his time at his university's campus publication, he worked for various sports media outlets. In 2023, he served as commentator for the 2023 Ang Liga season on Smart Sports and was tapped as a contributor for Tiebreaker Times in 2024.[5] He also wrote for the lifestyle section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.[6]
