Sam Hellman (July 4, 1885 – August 11, 1950) was an American screenwriter.

Career[edit]

Sam Hellman began as a short story writer and newspaper reporter.[1] He was managing editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He entered the film industry in 1927 with Paramount Pictures.[1]

On August 11, 1950, Hellman died of a "heart ailment" at the age of 65.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Hellman married to Selma Schwartz in 1913[3] they had two daughters; one of them, Verna Fields, became a film editor. Hellman's brother, Jack, was a writer for Daily Variety.[1]
