Tosco Fyvel (1907 - ), married Mary - ? , daughter, Susan - ,

educated at SWiss and English schools and Cambridge University. In the 1930s he worked in Palestine and served as a Psychological Warfare Officer in North Africa and Italy during WW2. from 1945-49 he was literary editor of Tribune and then worked for the External Service of the BBC until 1965.

He was one of the founders of Encounter and was literary editor of the Jewish Chronicle.

He met George Orwell in 1940 and together with Fredric Warburg, he edited the Searchlight series of short books on war aims (link to Peregrine Worsthorne article remembering FYvel [1] )which Orwell began with The Lion and the Unicorn. Having known Orwell for the last decade of the writers life, he wrote a personal memoir of Orwell , first published in 1982.
