S. RAMANATHAN PILLAI Born to Mrs. Nagarathinam and Mr. Somasundaram in Madras State (currently called as TamilNadu), first amongst 6 children in the family. Five Siblings are S.Jagdambal, S.Sambandam, S.Janaki, S.Thyagarajan, another daughter. S.Ramanathan Pillai was shortly called as SR in political circles in the Indian National Congress party, in which he was an active fighter along with other stalwarts like Sri. C. Rajagopalachari. SR was elected in the Legislative Council Election held in 1937 from Myladuthurai Constituency within Madras Presidency. S.Ramanathan served as Minister for Public Information and Administration Reports under then Chief Minister Sri. C. Rajagopalachari from 1937 to 1939. SR was an active political face in Madras Presidency in the Indian National Congress Party (INC), and lived in Madras city with his wife until 1970. He passed away on 09th March 1970, the tamilnadu's legislative assembly condoled his death on Saturday 14th March 1970 by remaining silent for a minute and then the assembly was adjourned for a span of 15 minutes.
