Sean Ferry/sandbox/Michael Patrick Keeney

Michael Keeney is an Irish songwriter, composer and producer based in Northern Ireland who has worked internationally for recording artists and film.


As a producer, arranger and musician he has worked on records for Duke Special, Foy Vance, David C Clements, Kevin Doherty, Beoga, The Darkling Air, Luke Sital Sing, Ryan Sheridan, INXS, Phil Coulter and many others. He has worked extensively as an orchestral arranger on projects for The Ulster Orchestra and for the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and The National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.

He scored the soundtrack for the late Gerry’s Anderson’s award winning 2014 docufilm “A City Dreaming” for the BBC. In 2009 he recorded/mixed and produced the original soundtrack to Philip Ridley’s “Heartless” starring Jim Sturgess, Clemence Posey and Timothy Spall. In 2010 he produced (alongside longtime collaborator Ciaran Gribbin (INXS, Madonna, William Orbit) the original soundtrack to Killing Bono starring Ben Barnes, Robert Sheehan and Pete Postlewaithe for Paramount pictures.

He has worked in some of the worlds most well known studios including Metropolis- London, Windmill Lane – Dublin, Metalworks - Toronto, SingSing - Melbourne, Grouse Lodge - Ireland, and Amberville - N.Ireland. He has collaborated with international producers including Mike Hedges (U2, Dido), Mike Chapman (Blondie, Tina Turner), Chris Potter (The Verve, The Feeling) and Jim Lowe (Stereophonics, Taylor Swift).

He was the recipient of the BBC Radio3/Huddersfield Festival Composers Award and as pianist in the Brian Irvine ensemble holds a BBC Radio 3 Jazz Award, His previous original band 'Leya' received a ‘Hotpress’ Award and an Irish Meteor Award Nomination. He produced and arranged Foy Vance’s album “The Joy of Nothing” which was awarded the inaugural NI Music Prize in December 2013.
