'SeattleSparks' is the Wikipedia username for Rachel Blackman (as well as a nom de net many other places). Her offline nickname of 'Sparks' stems from the movie Contact, wherein the main character is referred to as 'Sparks' by her father in flashbacks. The young 'Sparks' reminded people of Rachel, and the nickname stuck.

Rachel reads avidly on many topics (as well as a number of SF/fantasy fiction novels) and is a would-be writer herself, under a pen name. For her day job, she helps write the Trillian instant messenger, and in her spare time practices English riding (formerly hunt seat but now dressage, on a warmblood named Debutanté) and photography, as well as being one of the staffers on FiranMUX. She also writes and maintains the Mac OS X MUD client, Atlantis. She is also a frequent attendee of Vanguard, a Seattle-area monthly social group for speculative fiction authors, aspiring authors, and fans.
