Annabel Morris Buchanan (22 October 1888-6 January 1983) was a composer and collector of folk music. She is best known for the hymn tune "Land of Rest", which she collected from her grandmother.
She was born Annie Bell Morris in Groesbeck, Texas to William Caruthers Morris and Anna Virginia Foster Morris, a newspaper publisher and teacher respectively. She showed musical talent at an early age and won a scholarship to the Landon Conservatory, a music school in Dallas, from which she graduated in 1906.[1] At this time she changed her name to Annabel Morris.[1]
She was the wife of Virginia politician John Preston Buchanan.[2]
Her papers are held at the University of North Carolina.[2]
