Alan Lovejoy Fawdry (22 June 1912 – 16 July 1995) was a British physician.


Alan Lovejoy Fawdry was born in Clifton, Bristol on 22 June 1912, the eldest son of Reginald Charles Fawdry and Edith Langley Lovejoy. He studied medicine at Cambridge University, graduating MB B.Chir. in 1938.

From 1939 to 1948 he served in the Colonial Service as a Medical Officer in Cyprus. During this time he carried out pioneering research into what was then called Cooley's Anaemia (Beta-thalassemia), gaining his M.D. from Cambridge in 1943. His major epidemiological study was published in The Lancet in 1944.

He moved to Aden in 1948.

In 1966 he was awarded the O.B.E. for services to medicine.[1]

He died in Milton Keynes on 16 July 1995.
