The other day, my husband noticed me trying to power my way through the general questions for ArbCom and realized that I was running again this year. I got the look, you know, the one with the eyebrow? He's already convinced I'm insane for the amount of time I devote to the project so this was immediately followed by "Why would you want to run for ArbCom?" Honestly, its a pretty easy answer.

First, I love Wikipedia. No one else on the planet is doing what we're doing here. Regardless of whether I need information about something my kinds are interested in, or learning in school or my husband asks about something I don't know off hand or I see something odd on a tv show (Fringe (TV series) is a great candidate for this), I just type in a shortcut and the topic and poof! there's the information I need. Its gotten to the point where I'm actually startled if I don't get the article (or disambiguation page) on the first try. If someone's thought about it, or even thinks it exists, you can bet its here somewhere.

Second, I give back. The reason you'll often find me clearing up one backlog or another, fixing a problem or offering solutions is because I enjoy helping. So I'm not out to change the world, I don't think the Committee or Community is a mess that needs to be fixed and I may never write a brilliant or eloquent decisions, but at the end of the day, I will have given back what I can and supported something I love.
