Lucia LoTempio[edit]

Lucia LoTempio is a Buffalo (born October 1, 1993 in Buffalo, NY) is a third-generation Italian-American author and poet. She is currently the Book Review Editor for Aster(ix) Journal[1].

Early Life[edit]

LoTempio grew up in Buffalo, NY with father Vincent and mother Lucille was well as younger sister, Rose. She is close with her extended family, especially her grandparents and cousins. LoTempio attended Catholic school K-12. She spent her High School years at Nardin Academy, an all-girls school in Buffalo[2]. She identifies her time there as having helped her gain confidence in herself and her writing. LoTempio graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from SUNY Geneseo (State University of New York) with a BA in English Literature and a minor in Sociology[3]. During the Spring of 2018, she received her MFA in Poetry from the University of Pittsburgh[3].

Career[edit]

Publishing History[edit]

LoTempio has co-written and published Undone in Scarlet from Tammy with young writer, Suzannah Russ Spaar[4] and has a forthcoming offering entitled Hot with the Bad Things to be published through self-described feminist press “Alice James Books” in May 2020[4]. Her poetry has been selected for publication by and in: the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series[5], Passages North[6], TYPO[7], The Journal[8], Sixth Finch[9], Washington Square Review[10], Linebreak[11] and many more.

Awards[edit]

She won first place in the 2017 University of Pittsburgh Writing Contest for Nonfiction, being a ranked poet for the 92Y Discovery Contest, the Black Warrior Review Contest in Poetry and the Winter Tangerine Award in Poetry[12]. She was also the 2014 winner of the Mary A. Thomas Award in Poetry[13].

Literary Advocacy[edit]

LoTempio was formerly the Managing Editor for The Adroit Journal[14] and has worked with VIDA: Women in Literary Arts[15]. She currently works at the nonprofit City of Asylum[16], teaches community writing classes at the Pittsburgh Center for Arts & Media[17], serves on the steering committee for Pittsburgh Emerging Arts Leaders[18], a project of the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and works as the Book Review Editor for Aster(ix) Journal[1], Contributing Editor for Gandy Dancer[19] and Poetry Reader for The Offing[20].
