History and Government[edit]
The Global Union (GU) was created on November 10th, 2016. It was formed when the UN passed Resolution 11111. It was an act voted for by ⅔ of the UN, merging the UN into a single, global country, divided by regions, which are former member states of the UN. The country has global laws, then laws on the regional level, then laws on any subsequent levels that region used to have, such as states in the USA. Any countries which were not member states of the UN either joined the GU, or were invaded by the GU military, run by the Ministry of Defense (MoD). Other ministries included: the Ministry of Justice, which managed the justice system, the Ministry of Order, which managed the police themselves, and the Ministry of Information, which gathered information for the GU. These ministries has subsequent departments, such as the Department of Espionage, or the Department of Military Research. The GU was headed by a Supreme Chancellor (SC), which was comparable to a US president or an English prime minister. There was also a Minstrel Cabinet, which was made up by ministers who rain the various ministries and subsequent departments. There were 20 ministers (and 20 ministries) in total. The leader of the cabinet is the Chancellor, who is appointed by the senate. The main legislative body is the senate, in which each Region elected a senator. The members of the Cabinet were appointed by the SC, and approved by the senate. The SC is chosen when the 7.5 billion citizens vote for their favorite candidate, with the leading political parties being the Socialists (pretty self explanatory), the Independents (Who wanted to abolish the GU and return to the old system of nation-states), and the Walterburgs (who supported policies that support Corporations). The GU existed peacefully for 500 years.
Downfall[edit]
On August 14, 2502, the GU fell into a civil war. The fascist revolutionary, Jester Golt, led an uprising against the GU. A 10 year civil war proceeded, with SC Joseph Grenzen leading the GU, and Golt leading the fascist party. Eventually, with the fascists having gained control of the East, and the GU only having control of the West, a ceasefire was signed, and the war ended. Over the following months, tensions were extremely high between the remaining GU, and the fascists. Around this time the GU started to secretly colonize the galaxy.
