From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fernvale Murals, Queensland is a new community project about to be commenced in Fernvale, Queensland by local artists, with the participation of residents from Fernvale and surrounding districts, most especially by those residents affected by the disastrous 2011 flood.

The three proposed murals will stand in the Fernvale Memorial Park. The first will illustrate the history of the distict from settlement until shortly after the First World War, with the inclusion of a section on the original Aboriginal occupants at the beginning, throughout the mural and at its end, to be contributed by local indigenous residents. The second, as the Fernvale Memorial Park was originally the railway yards, will depict the rail station and goods yards; the third will be an illustration of the wildlife of the surrounding area.

Other murals in the South of the Somerset Region area were created in the nearby township of Coominya, similarly depicting local history and industries. The Coominya Murals were each created by individual artists, whereas the Fernvale murals will be the combined creation of both artists and community members.
