"Special K" (or used as "SpecialK977" online) was a nickname bequeathed upon a young Minnesotan at the early age of 15. The "K" standing for Kristopher, the name borrowed from a popular cereal brand was first used at his first job as a short-hand cook. The name was first used in a satirical manner when a coworker referred to him as "Special Kris," implying that he was mentally handicapped or "special." As hazing process continued, the phrase was shortened to Special K which eventually stuck as his nickname. The name later was adapted to gamer tags, email addresses, online profiles, and more. Later, Special K was adapted as his official call sign when he joined the MINAS Rangers airsoft group.
