'William Lazonick (born in Toronto, Canada on June 8, 1945) is an economist who studies the history and theory of economic development. Over a career that spans more than four decades, he has been best known for a methodological approach that integrates theory and history, the construction of the theory of innovative enterprise a foundation of economic analysis, his critiques of the (neoclassical) theory of the market economy, research on comparative capitalism (particularly Britain, United States, and Japan), and work in business history.
